Ski/Roof Racks

I just installed a Yakima Megawarrior basket w/the extensions on my 4R today. I left the fairing off for 2 reasons: there was more wind buffeting when used with the sunroof opened and the way it is attached to the basket was too flimpsy (it kept flipping downward when I brake moderately - it is part of the design to flip down, but I can't have it constantly flipping up & down since it is made of 1/8" plexi-glass and will break eventually). I also mounted a pair of Powderhound SE (holds 6 skis or 4 boards), but I positioned them horizontally for now due to aerodynamics. The basket is huge (74" x 48" x 6.5"), but looks sweet!

i just got the yakima big powderhound 6 skis/ 4 snowboard roof rack packeage including a pair of locks and mighty mounts for the 4runner roof rack for $89.95 + tax!....

Oh man! Thanks for this info. Took this down to sport rack and they signed right up to this price! A great deal. It took about 30 minutes to install. But, 1/2 of that was being anal about measuring placement.

right on! did you go to the one on camden ave? the manager of the store was like "man, i can't believe they're selling them at this price! how do they get away with it?!?!". all said and done he told me i was getting like 35% off the total in-store price. but they're really cool people.

Yup, took a fewminutes. They looked it up on the web to see if it was valid. In the end, they had all the parts and agreed to it. Great deal... I couldn't believe the discounts on my receipt either. I did pay the difference between the 2 and 4 core lock set - just in case I get a few more Yakima parts....:cheers:

Did you have to use the diagonal space option?

This is my first post and first time joining the board. I have a 2005 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition.

I also purchased the Yakima Big Powderhound SE to connect the my factory rack. I wanted to know if anyone else had to use the extra piece to make the rack go diagonal to fit 4 boards. When I followed the directions, it said that the board or bindings shouldn't touch the roof.

I tried putting the rack on without the diagonal piece, but it seemed like the factory rack was too curved to work.

Please let me know if anyone was able to put the rack straight on.

I think with the diagonal piece, it adds more drag when I drive.

The Powerderhound will connect to the factory racks without the diagonal piece, that is how i installed mine. but to fit 4 boards you may or may not need it, depending on the size of your bindings and how far they stick out. i only carry 2 boards with mine, if i were to carry 3, thus having one upside down, i would definitely need to add that diagonal piece.
