Skid plate did it's job

EDIT: I was wondering if you had the white TRD pro.... I saw you in new Maryland and I almost went off the road!!! They don't sell them in Canada, and I saw a white one about 2-3 weeks ago. I just did a bit of forum diggin and I see it was yours. Very cool! I have the only black trail around. You may have seen me thrashing around inside trying to see your license plate.

Thats crazy ,Yep it was me , daughter just closed on a house out in Charters Settlement .We were up for a house warming party that turned into an engagement party . Spent a day up on Little Cains and a day on the Nashwaak in Penniac . I had 99 miles on her when I left NH for the trip .

yup, stock skid is good for about one solid hit, time to get an aftermarket skid!

It is like the ceramic body armor plate...... good for 1 hit....

Anyways.... time for aftermarket skid.... GBs on going.... both Shrockworks (3/16" steel) and RCI (3/16" steel or 1/4" aluminum)!!

Or you can always get the 1/4" thick Aluminum TRD front skid!

How much ground clearance (if any) does one lose with adding an aftermarket skid plate over the stock? I was told that the ARB skids offer the best ground clearance, is that true?

Is the aluminum TRD front skid really the same thickness as the equivalent RCI skid? If so, it is a cheaper option than the RCI version.

You wont lose any ground clearance I would think ,if anything you may gain some. For the price point, you cant beat RCI skids, its a good place to start.

Yes, both TRD and RCI aluminum are the same thickness - 1/4"

I am not sure if you can call the TRD front skid a cheaper option. TRD front's coverage is smaller than RCI's. And in order to achieve the same/similar coverage, you would need the new "TRD integration" plate from RCI:

Personally, I do have the TRD front skid and the new RCI integration skid. Haven't got the chance to get it on yet tho.

If true, it's only because they offer the least coverage. They are pretty much worthless and I would stay with stock over ARB's skids.

While you may lose some ground clearance with aftermarket skids, it will be in places you don't want extra ground clearance, you want a continuous surface to slide over the obstacle and not get hung up on frame cross members, transfer case, etc.

That settles it ... I am getting some armor below. I probably wont be getting a lift for a while plus RCI is a local Colorado company so its a done deal.

C'mon guys - it's just a 'quick' vs. 'fast' kinda thing. Time (t) vs. position/time (dx/dt).
