Skid plate is gone, should i worry?

skid plate that cover the transfer case is gone, i dont know how, the last time it was pulled out was last February when i changed the lubes. and i remember its still there the last time i washed my truck, which is not long ago.

Should I worry? it feels like naked. Should I get a replacement?? is it worth it?

Do you offroad it much? If not, I'd say dont worry about it unless it was structural in some way. Not familiar with the skidplates on these so just going by generalities.


If you do take it offroad alot, might be better to play it safe and get another one.


And, how exactly did it just, disappear???? Are they bolted on and you just forgot to tighten the bolts? If so, wouldnt that make a hell of a noise as it fell of and bounced around under your truck on the road??

i dont off road, and i suspect that the bolts were not tightly torqued.
im very observant when driving my vehicles, the last few weeks the wife's been driving the 4R,i asked her if she noticed something fell or noise while driving, and she has no clue, she just drives.

If there were a skid plate there, you wouldn't be able to see all that, you would see a metal ... plate that covers the transfer case

What JB. mentioned is all that is there in the area. My '06 looks the same.

My understanding is that this is what the under body of the 4R looks like, unless you own a skid plate, which is not standard on all 4R's.


Jacobzky, I would be worried that someone stole your skid plate. LOL, might come back for more. I personally do not have one, but like the look of one. maybe I'll stop by your house late at night after you get it replaced :dancin:

well now you have me questioning myself. From what I can tell, there is no skid plate... I think:biggrin2: :bash: But it also depends on the type of skid plate he used to have. My guess is that he is talking about the much larger type, considering that he says that it was stolen...

Have you checked some of the online companies like Toyota of Dallas? They might sell it separately and will most likely be cheaper than Longo. I would stay away from Partznet though.

Yep, the OEM Skid Plate is there and not missing. Jacobzky, did you have an aftermarket skid plate installed that is now missing?

I would not worry about anything in that area unless you're driving over huge boulders. There's a beefy skid plate for the area that's designed for Toyota Tacoma, but most of us do not need it.
