Sleeping in 2014 Trail

I'm getting ready to order a 2014 trail and can't decide on whether to get the rear sliding cargo tray or not. From my searching, i understand that the rear sliding cargo tray lays flat with the back seats down...i think.

But if i don't get the rear sliding cargo tray, is it flat back there? Can someone please confirm?

In mine I have the rear sliding tray, its level with the rear seats when they are folded down. I am pretty sure without the tray the floor is lower than the folded seats.
 
If the one you are looking at already has the sliding tray then get it. Otherwise it's probably not worth the extra money. What you can do if you get one without it is to build a shallow carpeted deck in the back to make up the 3 inch height difference and hinge the top to give you some very much needed storage area while levelling the back for sleeping.

I camped a bit in the back of my '11 SR5 w/o a slider. The '14 now has a slider and I am looking forward to the flat cargo space. I also HIGHLY suggest the TruckBedz (Amazon Link) rear mattress. It perfectly inflates in the rear area to maximize the sleeping area.
 
Thanks for all the super quick responses! I am ordering a trail so i have the option of getting the rear cargo tray or not. I think I'm going to get it considering how much i sleep in the back. A 3" hump doesn't sound very comfortable to sleep on...

Can't wait to order it...maybe today actually.

Price is right, but I love that extra space that the Truck Bedz gives you around the wheel wells. Combine it with a queen size sleeping bag and you and your significant other will stay toasty all night. ----> best purchase ---> Sportsman Warehouse Sleeping bag

I have 3 different camping sets including all the fancy carbon fiber North Face tents and bags. I favor the 4runner + Truckbeds + Queen size bag quite a bit!
 
yup, cargo area lays perfectly flat with the sliding tray. i actually like my sliding tray. and i've slept very comfortably in the back a number of times. good luck with your purchase!

ps: dig those fancypants mattresses! i sleep on a dog bed. ok, it's a memory foam dog bed, but a dog bed nonetheless! :D

ya but our "wheel wells are further back that a normal truck how does it really fit? got a pic of it? I actually like not having mattress on the side cause that is where I toss gear like shoes, ammo etc
 
I haven't tried removing the seat bottoms to fit length wise but the flat bottom is awesome for sleeping. *i had an FJ and it sucked with the hump.

If you're taller than 5'10"-ish and like to stretch out fully, removing a seat bottom makes things more comfortable. I remove the single seat bottom on the driver's side. I've found that a milk crate + a folded blanket placed on the floor behind the driver's seat levels things up nicely.
Also with the sliding tray, there's a hard plastic piece you'll want to remove for sleeping.

Remove the seat bottoms. It literally takes 30 seconds. Two bolts per seat bottom.

Actually I was looking for another tacoma to replace my 2004 and sleeping in the back was THE feature that was going to make or break the upgrade to a 4runner. I got in the back at the dealer with the seats down to size it up :D No fit, no buy! But diagonally I fit great.

Are you talking about the "decorative" covering on the bottom of the seat? Or do you mean removing the entire seat bottom from the car?
 
I'm wondering, if using the inflatable bed in a no-slider cargo area, would the "hump" be as noticeable?
In other words, would the mattress somewhat conform to the bottom of the cargo area and provide a reasonably comfortable sleeping surface?
I've been meaning to try this.

2 bolts to remove the entire rear driver's side seat bottom from the vehicle. It is super easy and depending on how far forward you move the front seat, can net you well over 1 foot of extra space.

I checked Amazon link for your mattress, it showed another size(VCSB T1) that was specific to the 4Runner. 72" length. Did you check it out? Your model does not show length or specific for 4Runner?

Remove the entire seat. 4 bolts.
