Sliders and step lights

Has anybody ditched their stock lit sidesteps for sliders but re-used the wiring for the step lights? Thought it might be a fun project.

I am going to do the same thing but haven't started my design yet. I have the sliders sitting in my garage but need to figure out the lights. I think I will go with some durable rock lights. I'm also thinking about wiring in an override switch to make them come on when I want but keeping the factory wiring as well so it retains the soft light up when I unlock the doors.

Shouldn't be too tough. Maybe even look for one of those LED strips? Not sure if they make them durable enough though. That way you don't have things that are too crazy bright like a rock light if you don't need/want it.

Yes I wired up some cheap lights to my stock wiring reusing the factory plugs. They were cheap and all 4 of them broke within the first couple weeks at the solder joint right at the end of the light. I re-soldered them and added more strain relief and no issues after that.
