Sliders that are "City" rated. . .

So as the title states I know sliders are all trail rated and they should be, but in todays society I'm not just worried about inanimate objects on the trail as I am other people in their cars and just letting their car doors open and rest on my vehicle. Believe it or not this has happened several times to me and even when I was in the car. I guess I noticed someone posted a while back in "what did you do with your 4Runner today" thread about how their sliders stopped a door. My main question is do most sliders go out past the doors? I know sounds crazy but I would like to just really protect my car while "teaching" the rest of the cars around me to open their door properly? Thanks for any input/advice/suggestions in advance!

I agree with Kid. I think sliders that are out far enough to stop another vehicles door are out too far and look kind of weird. That's my opinion though. I think they look better tucked up and under a bit more than a nerf bar would be.

My BAMF sliders with the kickout are perfect for what your describing. Even the front of the slider sticks out enough for protection upfront.

You can get sliders that stick out like that, but very few members have them. One they look a little strange and two most of the time people just go with a step-side if they want those.

I run demello sliders and they protect my doors very well against most cars you encounter in parking lots (i.e. non lifted). They are tucked up close to the body and don't stick out that much.

This is the only pic I have where you can see how much they stick out in relation to the body.

and nerfs are ugly.

I bought BAMF sliders, havent gotten them yet but with pics it looks to do what you want them to. I 99% only got them because my girlfriend is tiny and kept sliding in/out of my leather and starting to wear it. So now she can use the little they stick out as a step in/out. Which in turn should guard me from rogue doors and carts.

I think most sliders will work alright for what you're wanting.

It wasn't an open door, but a week or two after I got my Stubbs I parked next to some jackass in an S10 who parked crooked and when I came outside I found this -

I'm pretty sure that would've been a dented rocker if not for the sliders, instead it resulted in a dent in his bumper. I had already grabbed a pic of his tag with my cell phone before we went in to eat just in case he hurt the 4runner. I had a feeling it might happen based on how he parked but it was the only parking spot in the lot so I decided to risk it.

I guess when I think nerf bar although maybe not mechanically correct, but I'm thinking of them there nice chrome tubes on my lifted chevy to match my naked lady mud flaps. . . .thus ergo therefore. . .white trash. But Matt I know what you mean about the person parking crooked and backing out and sideswiping except it happened to my new Subaru STi. Parked it in an empty spot on both sides and while I was inside a guy pulled in next to me and ran in and ran out and sideswiped me backing out which I didn't notice until I came out to the car. . .after he drove off. Also happened to my dad at the same gas station just parked out front. I guess you could say I'm done "playing nice"

That's my issue with them. They look like they're hanging off, like someone made them for something else and fabbed up some brackets to mount them. Doesn't look clean at all.

I call my SE tube steps "SWAT Steps" to make me feel a little better and just in case I need to transport a couple of SWAT guys in or out of a situation. :loco:
I can say that they don't hold up to rocks very well and I'm planning on making some sliders in the very near future!

It seems like most of the slider designs protrude outward just past the outer most points of the runner's side panels. Far enough to defend the door panel/rocker panel area against door dings and bumper bumps from most other vehicles of "normal" ride height.

do any of the production sliders have a welded in center that acts like a step? I need to get something that will protect, but also provide the wife and i something big enough to stand on to get gear on/off the roof rack.

whiteknuckle offroad offers a diamondplate top plate option for theirs. I think others offer similar options but WK is the only one I know of for sure.

I park far away in parking lots exactly for this reason!! Sure I dont drive a brand new whatevertha**** but parking far keeps *******s from dinging and banging my doors with their pos doors. but if you cant park far away I'd say get sliders that stick out, or you can just park a little bit farther away, walk 20 more feet, knowing that some lazy ass isnt going to park right next to you, because your parked a little further away, and swing there door right into yours

Man I hope you have better luck getting her to use them than I do with my woman. She likes to slide in and out on the leatherette bolsters and she's already caught a jean rivet on the bolster and poked a hole in it I had to fix. I say something to her more times than not to use the damn steps, they're there for a reason. Lol, drives me nuts.
