Sliding Cargo Tray

What are your thoughts on the Sliding Cargo Tray? Get it or avoid it?

About to pull the trigger on a 14' but can't decide to get it or not. I had the stacking/shelf option in my 06' Limited and never used it.

I have one, don't get much benefit from it. I'm still able to reach in and grab things. It may be handy as a baby changing table.

Since you cannot get KDSS at ANY of the damn Gulf State Toyota dealers (unless you build it) your stuck going out of the region to get one. As of now I can drive 28 hours round trip to get a Trail Premium with the sliding cargo tray or I can drive 20 hours round trip to get one without the tray for about $400 less.

So in essence, would anyone drive the 8 additional hours and pay $400 more to get the sliding cargo tray??

No, but not due to hating the tray. Not many things on a vehicle would make me go through all that. I have the tray and find it useful, but I worry it will become a rattle trap like others have mentioned. Other than that, it's a nice feature, IMHO. I could easily not have it and be just as happy too.

I am still looking for the best way to mount my refrigerator on it. I wish it went all the way against the back of the seat instead of the 7-8" ledge.

Mine gets some use, but only with larger things. This summer I loaded it up with 10 bags of mulch and using the trey was great. Being able to slide heavy things into the vehicle instead of lifting it in or out, is great. However, is it worth $400 + 8 hours of driving? Probably not. Congrats on the new vehicle, which ever way you decide go!

I have 25K on mine. Hauled a lot of heavy things on the tray. Used it for a table too no problems. No rattles or anything else.

Plenty of miles on my 2010. No issues with the tray. Don't use it a lot thought. I'd probably leave it out if I were to do it again (I built my truck; didn't get something off the lot).

I've got a '12 TE and I think it was standard. If I had a choice I'd go without. I haven't found it real useful. It would be better if the cargo tie downs were actually on the tray. As it is, you can't tie down anything and slide it out without having to untie. The only thing I've found it useful for is a flat surface for cleaning birds when hunting; slide it out all the way to keep feathers from floating inside the truck.

I just traded my 11' for a 14' and made sure that it did not have one, my 11' came with it because they couldn't find one without it or the 3rd row. It was the first thing that I removed, and now I have to put the damn thing back in. I can't imagine what it could be used for, it's worthless to me, I'd rather have the cargo space.

I use mine occasionally. If I need a work bench to do some quick things and it is very useful. I may not use it down the road but it's better than the shelf in the 4th gen.

Also it is now all warped because I stuffed the 4Runner with over 1800 pounds of crap on a cross country road trip.

Came with one in my 2010 TE with no rattles to date;but then I would probably never even notice it since I always carry emergency gear,etc. on top of it. Nice to have as when I Used mine occasionally to haul soil, salt,etc; like what others have said, don't know whether worth the time to pick up one;you have a choice and could spend $400 towards a more useful mod!

I vote neither option. I have it in my '12 TE and it's never been in the way, and it's never been "oh so useful" either.

I would like to see what the rear looked like and how much lower the foor is without the slider, but it isn't a deal breaker either way.

I don't mind it, but I don't use it either. I do like how it makes the cargo area flat when you fold down the second row seats so you can sleep in the back. I don't know if the models without the tray still have a truly flat cargo area. I know my dad's SR5 with the 3rd row seats does not.

I am very happy with mine. Have used it to load heavy and awkward items into the back without worry of damage to bumper area. Also...yes it does make a great diaper change table! We all laugh at it but if any of you saw the headache it prevents you would be impressed. My 10' does not have a single rattle to it either.

Haven't used it as a diaper changing table yet (but the liner might also come in handy ) So far its been handy not to make loading cases of water etc a 'back breaking' exercise.

Sliding tray option is handy for sure, but also keep in mind it takes up precious cargo space. If you're into transporting really tall things it might make the difference between it fitting or not.

ALSO, you can't forget about that super cool hidden compartment that apparently only the sliding tray comes with

All in all, I would say not to let it make or break your deal.

Hate it. Rattles and takes up too much space. Will be replacing with ARB drawers in the near future.

I've used mine quite a bit. Instead of lifting and tossing bags of soil, mulch, etc., I use the tray. It's great to slide it out, put the materials on, and then slide it back in. Unloading is just as easy.
