Slotted and Dimpled Rotors

I agreed with the rest of his post, however you both are wrong on slotted rotors. I drove for four years on the stock brakes, and now have about 4.5 years on my new setup. There was a significant improvement in braking performance. Maybe the way you drive it won't matter, but the way I drive here in the mountains, you can tell the benefit.
quantify your "improvement"

If you are not running race spec pads, you do not need slotted or drilled rotors... period. With street or agressive street pads there is no difference in braking performance between blank rotors, or rotors that are slotted/drilled when using the same pads.

Modern pads (especially street pads) dont vent gasses, and do not need to be "cleaned" by slots in the rotors. All the marketing around the need for drilled/slotted rotors is just hype. You are better off spending the extra money on a premium quality blank rotor instead of a crap quality drilled/slotted rotor.

Centric premium blanks are awesome, and the hats and vanes are epoxy coated black so they wont rust and look ugly over time.

Yeah I put about 5000 miles on them they shake like hell now I'm just going to go for something normal again it's a shame because I bought them so they wouldn't warp

They probably arent warped, You probably just have uneven pad deposits on the rotor.

If you can find a shop that will turn them, that will fix the problem. Many shops refuse to turn drilled/slotted rotors though.

Snip...

I like the look of the Centric disks myself, and the price too. I think I will go ahead and buy a set of those for the f/r and some Hawk HPS pads.

My truck is doing the same.... but I have not done any of those new pads or rotors yet.

Sounds like you have a frozen caliper to me.

just so we're all clear here, the all limiting factor in how fast you stop has been and will be those 4 small contact patches between your tires and the road.

If your stock brakes can lock em up, aftermarket ones WONT make you stop any faster. THey may, however, give a different pedal feel and allow you the ability to adjust pedal travel, but thats generally for race prep.

Also, bedding in is necessary so that you dont experience pad buildup on your rotors....

If you want to stop faster, change your tires....not your brakes.

Slotted:

hello, has anyone put dimpled and slotted rotors on their 4runner without any issues? i put all 4 plus pads and new calipers on the front and i get a bad vibration in steering wheel and pedal when braking hard over 50mph. dealer told me the aftermarket slotted and dimpled rotors were the culprit. i find that hard to believe. any input from anyone? i have an 03 limited V8 all wheel drive.

I put slotted on front and rear and never a problem w/new pads recommended for rotors, although after about 10-15,000 miles rears seem to always get warpped and never the front. It as done that on every set I have ever owned, slotted or not. I think I will put dimpled and slotted or even drilled next time on rear. I hear the 4Runner for our year does not get good remarks on brakes from consumer reports.

^^^^ nfw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

C'mon Jack.

You're better than that to talk sh!t on his ride. It may not be your taste but its something i am sure he is proud of. Different strokes for different folks. I like big lifts, roof racks and big tires. He likes big chrome rims, doesn't make one way better than another.......

:hello:
