slow acceleration and weird noise???

i did a qucik search but didnt find exactly what i was looking for. for the last few weeks every once in awhile i hear what sounds like a pencil in a fan (it was quiet and i could only hear it when the window was down). but goes away after let off the gas, or come to a coasting speed. its usually only on take off...

then today, it did it really loud and was sluggish like no other. i would press on the gas but it wouldnt rev or go, then three seconds later it would catch. the sound stopped kind of, but the sluggish acceleration happens everytime i come to a complete stop.

any ideas?

Could be pre-detonation. Could be fan hitting the fan shroud.

What concerns me is the huge impact in driving. Could be gears in the transmission dying.

Despite no code, you should stop driving it and have it towed to a shop. SOmething is wrong. Hopefully minor, but you never know. Could be a bearing?

Sounds like your ATRAC is kicking in by cycling the ABS and taking away throttle control in order to get traction. However, you don't mention any traction issues (eg. snow or rain.) If it was an ECU it would throw a code and not work at all. Have you had any recent work done on the brakes or wheels and possibly an ABS sensor wire got loose causing an intermittent sensor issue? Is the noise always from one particular corner/wheel?

definitely no traction issues. bright and sunny 70 degrees today...

i did have new tires, brakes, front calipers and front and rear u joints replaced about 2 months ago.

as for the noise, i cant tell where its coming from. i want to say front left, but thats where i hear it from (drivers seat). not sure if thats where its coming from tho.

You could try disconnecting the gray plug in the front of the brake booster assembly to test. That should disable all ABS functions as well as engine suppression, too, I believe.

hmmm interesting... ill have to give that a go when i get home. currently at work and this happened over lunch. gonna drive it home and see if it still does it. then ill go from there.

Yes, you won't have VSC or ABS so if it doesn't change anything, plug it back in.

And I should have mentioned it's under the hood, right side, in front of the steering wheel.

So it's not the trac. Did that. Still has lag. I called my mechanic and he asked
Me to check the tranny fluid while on the phone with him. That was at the top of "hot" after a half hour of freeway driving.

It does fine on the freeway. But gettin going from a stop seems like it's gonna stall on me. It like putts and then goes.

Anyways. Taking It to him on Friday. Guess I'll just have to ride the motorcycle til then.

Does it sound like a loose heatsheild ? When you're doing 15-20 & go away when you accelerate ? Been having same sound cpl have mentioned torque converter nother thing to consider !

I'm thinking the noise and the putter arnt connected.

Could the putter be caused by a bad batch of gas? It has a hard time starting now.

so this morning i decided to fire it up and see what happens. :flamewar:

it started up fine, then while in park sitting in the drive way the rpms went from 0 to 2000 to 0 to 2000 and then idled at 500....

so i put it in reverse... everything was calm... rolled out of the drive way and then put it in drive.... so far so good....

pressed the gas... and boom... nothing happens. it putted and then died. started back up just fine in order for me to coast it back into the drive way and then i left it there. it will move forward with out touching the gas if i let off the brake. but no gas gets to it... im very interested in finding out what in the hell is causing this. if it is gas, safeways paying for my troubles.

called the tow and im leaving work early to get it looked at this afternoon.

Update.

Mechanic spent all day yesterday inspecting. Checked everything. Fuel pump. Vacuums. Electrical. No issues. This morning they drained the fuel and took off my tank and flushed the fuel lines. Put it all back and put fresh gas in it and it magically is perfectly fine.

On my way to get the invoice along with a gallon of the shit gas and heading to the store to fill out an incident report.
