Slow acceleration

:rant I have a 93 4Runner with 178,000 miles within the last view months I've replaced: brainbox, fuel pump, fuel filter, tune-up, catalyct converter, and timing belt. My problem is when I push the pedal to the metal it takes forever for it to accelerate, and I also noticed that it burns more gas, and with gas prices in Chicago at $3.89 (and that's the cheapest!!!) it's not a good thing. Can anybody share some guidance before I go broke and don't have any money for repairs!!!

How extensive was the tune-up? Did they adjust the valve clearance? The only way to be sure is ask and/or look at the reciept. Valve cover gaskets (cam cover gaskets) would indicate they pulled the covers and really checked not just listened. Just because valves aren't ticking doesn't mean they're right. If clearances are too tight you'll have a loss of power and if left unchecked for long enough the valves will "burn" which reduces compression and power.
