Small hole in frame. Advice?

I could be totally off, but could it be maybe where a tack weld or how ever the frame is mounted going through the assembly line? I have no clue hey they do things, so I'm just throwing a thought out there.

Mine has the exact same thing, but on the passenger side. It's like a half moon indention right along the weld seem. I'm pretty sure it is something related to the mfg process. My guess would be a strength test on the weld or some type of jig locator.

Clearly nothing to worry about. It is odd that it seems to be on passenger or driver side and not both.

I don't have a new 4Runner. I have a 2016 Tacoma. It has a five year/80k mile warranty on the frame. Do you have it on the 4Runner? That would go a ways to instill confidence in the frame. I'm glad you've determined it's nothing. It did look like a weld to me.

I think it was hit on earlier.

I also believe the holes are from a floor jack improperly positioned by a mechanic that doesn't give a damn. A couple thousand pounds of force on the prong of a floor jack will do that.

Shouldn't be a problem though, just spray some undercoat on it so it won't rust, blast a little in the hole with a wand while your at it too.

...Look at it as a weep/drainage hole to assist in helping the frame dry out should it become wet

frame should be able to take the weight, but if there was a rock or something inbetween might have put all the weight on one pressure location? My working thought?

You don't need a rock, your typical metal floor jack saddle has 3 or 4 anti-slide tabs that will do the same damage -or more- than the rock scenario your thinking of. ...That's why I always use a piece of scrap 2x4 or some thing similar -rubber block- for protection between the frame and jack saddle.

I have lifted mine with nothing between the jack tabs and the frame 87 times and don't have any dents.

No way a std floor jack caused it... It's not in a spot where anyone would ever lift from. It's too far forward in a sloped area where access would be difficult because of the wheels...

This is something related to the factory or shipping. To have it in nearly the same spot on several trucks....

It's not a hole BTW Just a dent.

I'll bet if you go looking for it.. .You will find the same thing on your truck.. Its not easy to locate.. you have to really go looking for it.

It's nothing of any significance... but it an interesting mystery.
