Smallfrye's 2000 4runner - 4th Time Around

Quick background on the 4runner - My parents have owned this car for the past 11 years and put on 200,xxx miles on it in that time (sitting around 278,xxx miles) while living in southern Arizona (so no rust). Back in 2017 I bought my 2015 Outback with the intent of giving it to my parents (as a surprise) to replace their 4runner because it needed repairs and was getting up there in miles but it didn't quite work out as I had hoped (I won't go into all the details why it didn't work pan out). Fast-forward to yesterday and my folks finally took possession of the Outback and in exchange I got their 4runner (crazy exchange I know).

The 4runner is in need of some work the biggest being the rear main seal needing to be replaced amongst some other minor things. So those items will be the first to be taken care of since those are priorities. Down the road the suspension will get refreshed along with new wheels and tires and somewhere along the lines it may get a 4wd conversion and/or rear elocker. Other than that I have no real plans for it at the time but like anything that is always subject to change.

Welcome back. Nice move going from the Outback as well. Given how blessedly cancer free the truck is once you go through the list, you will have that truck until you want a Land Cruiser or something.

Nice stance as is. Good find, enjoy that runner. :cowboy:

Like most folks on here I can't leave well enough alone. The stance will change a bit

Or a 6th gen 4runner if it ever comes out.

Made a visit to a junkyard in Denver and picked up a set of seats out of a 2000 4runner with 100,xxx miles less seat time on them and spent the past few nights cleaning them up. These are far more comfortable.

Old on the left and new on the right.

Easy job but I forgot how much I hate changing fuel filters. Took 4 tries to get the dumb thing seated right.

It does look like the rack and rear main are both leaking.

Took care of a minor body work item two weeks ago and two maintenance items yesterday.

Replaced the old rear license plate surround two weeks ago, after spending its life in Arizona it had deteriorated and had a few broken clips.

Replaced one of the air intake hoses yesterday, it basically tore in half when I tried to remove it.

Replaced the spark plugs and wires with an OEM set.

Old and New

Old

The steering rack and rear main seal is next but that is something I can't do and won't for awhile due to wrist issues.

Where did you get the rear license plate trim and what is the part # please.

If you still have the tail finish plate, I could use one.

If so, like to know if it's not warped in top center and that the clip holders themselves or any bosses are not damaged.

Can you ship to Colorado?

By the way did new part come finished or did you have that done?
