Smart Entry Door Handle Swap

Has anyone here swapped their limited 4runner chrome door handles with black ones from a 2020-2021 venture or 4runner with black smart key handles? I've found the part numbers (69210-60260-C1) but no information about the swap.

Had a 2017 black limited and wrapped all the chrome with matte vinyl, but started to peel from all the wear and tear. On my second limited now (2020) and the body shop I deal with say its tough to prep chrome plated plastic to repaint them so its better to just get the replacement parts.

So I did a rattle can job on my '13 sr5 in about 2016. I was in the same boat. At the time I would have paid way too much just to have them painted. No one wanted to. My rattle can match I used was decent, but it's long in the tooth. I think I'm going to have nappa mix the paint and just ask around next time I go to a windrock event. Someone's out there that will mess with it, paid in beer.

I'm not sure why anyone's afraid of applying stuff to a self etching primer when you are willing to sign a warranty waiver, but here we are.

If it’s anything like my Tacoma was, remove the door panel and there is one nut on the forward part of the handle and then remove the round plug on the door in the jamb and remove that nut. There are two rods that just unclip and then unclip the wiring harness for the keyless handles. It’s all pretty easy TBH

I can’t answer whether it’s a clean swap but if you take the plunge I’d be interested in your chrome ones. Mine got beat to hell when I was chopping a solid layer of ice off them after a bad ice/freezing rain storm when I didn’t realize I was damaging them
