Smart Key Window Function

According to the manual, when you press and hold the unlock button on your smart key all the windows should go down. If this doesn't work your dealer can customize it.

a) Did anyone buy a Limited and have this feature equipped?
b) Will the dealer do it for free?

My key doesn't do this so I called my dealer. The service dept cautioned me that they charge for this. I called my salesman and complained that I just paid 40K for a car and don't want to be charged to "customize" my key. I'm still waiting to hear back but I wanted to see if anyone else has this issue.

I have an SR5 - I went back to the dealer and they did this for me for free. I actually went back a second time after I found out you could also insert your key into the drivers side door to close and open your windows, as well. Dealers do not want a bad customer service reputation (especially Toyota dealers:lmao:) As I said before: If they don't do it for free, take 'em out back and rough 'em up a little :bash:

I went twice, too, both free. Tell that dealer that you'll be looking for somewhere else to buy your next vehicle if your satisfaction is so low on his list.

My dealer did it for free on my SR5... I hold down unlock and my windows roll down and sunroof opens. Also seat belt chime turned off and key in door unlock rolls down windows and sunroof and key in door lock rolls up windows and sunroof. Also on the back they set the rear window to roll down the same way with the key.

To get away with having them do it for free just try and have them do it at your next oil change...

I would be pissed though if they wouldn't do it for free anytime. It only took them about 5 mins to do it.

Seems like a lot of different options for the same outcome. I'd just go for the hold unlock to open the windows/sunroof feature personally. No need for the extra manual effort! Either way, good to know, thanks!

The only difference is that when you do it manually, you CAN roll the windows up too. Holding down the unlock or lock button will NOT roll up your windows (I think they view this as a liability).

The customizing is in the car's computer, not the remote. It takes a tech's computer to access the software.

That could be the case; however there is a video post on YouTube done by toyota itself which shows how you can reprogram the smart key's unlocking features by holding down all three buttons for five seconds. I was just presuming you could do more than just that mod via button combos. There are three buttons and if you did different variations for the 5 second interval, there are 27 different possible results (or mods). With all that said, I still have no idea.

yeah... but he is right about the computer. I watched them do mine with a laptop....

Apparently on the Limiteds, you cannot have the windows or just the rear window lowered. I just had my remote start added and asked for it and watched him go down the options on their computer, nothing..

did they try it on the advanced key system or on the separate remote starter. Did you have installed the remote starter that requires a separate key fob (like the python) or the toyota one which is used w/in the one key. I believe it is feature that would be done on the smart key not the remote starte.

I have the limited with the python starter with the separat key fob and called today and talked to the service manager and he said he would have the service guys do it when i stop in. I'm sure he has no idea if it could be done considering nobody at my toyota dealer seems to know anything about the T4R.

They installed the remote starter in my fob, I just press the lock button twice then hold it to start.

The computer guy said he would call someone higher up on Monday to see if its something more adv than that, but it didnt sound like it'd be able to happen.
