Smog Check Failed!

My T4R has been sitting for about 1 year. Finally got it running and it had a 1/4 tank so I added fuel system cleaner and octane booster with 10 more gallons of fuel to top it off. I went to have a smog check done and it failed so quickly I didn't even have to pay.

Is it possible that I failed because of the bad gas and all the addatives?

I would basically do a tune up for it.
Change all the fluids. Time it. Get new gasoline, run it til near empty and get new gas. My buddy failed pretty quick too. was 5x too rich. He got a new catalytic converter and o2 sensor and he passed. He has a 91 pickup.

B4 the car got a new motor and trans the head gasket blew and dumped massive amounts of antifreeze down the exhaust could that have ruined my O2 sensor? The guy at the muffler shop told me that I could burn off anything that was just chilling in there eventually. I didn't ask about the O2 sensor though.

The exhaust from burning coolant is very corrosive, so it could have damaged the cat, o2 sensor, or even caused a weak spot and a crack in your pipes somewhere. I learned about that the hard way after burning coolant for a while in my old one... I had to replace my entire exhaust system.

I don't like the sound of that. Well on the bright side when I was doing the motor swap I took most of the exhaust out. I unbolted it at the cat and left the rest in.

The guy at the smog check place told me that I could come back fail and take the cert to the DMV. Then apply for an extension and assistance? It takes 2 weeks to get approval and then I pay $100 and Califonia pays for the rest of the repairs. Has anybody heard of this?

I went from white smoke to brown smoke to black smoke. What does all that mean.

White smoke was when the car was first started and I think it was condensation.

Brown smoke was a day after

Black smoke today after I changed the coil wire out

pretty sure black/blue smoke = burning oil..

Black smoke means too rich. Check plug color. Insulator should be light tan. Is this engine injected or carburetor?

the car is fuel injected. I am currently running a 1990 coil and 1994 motor and dist. So I am switching to a NEW 1994 coil and hopefully going to get more spark and stop running rich. The reason being is that the 1990 coil wire doesn't work with the new dist. ( It starts but I believe that it is jumping and losing alot of spark.)

Ok so I changed the Spark plugs, wires, coil, O2 sensor, cat, and muffler (for fun) today and now No More Smoke! In fact it seems faster. The old plugs were gapped to 35 and the book calls for 31. BTW touch the coil wire when it is running and you can get a good jolt. :upset: I think I pushed to hard when installing the coil wire and moving the boot and exposing some of the metal.

The plugs looked like they had rust on them tanish looking
