Smoked Taillight Overlays from Blue Batmobile - who's interested?

Just an update...I e-mailed Andrew and asked him if he was willing to still do the overlays if we don't have 2 dozen committed buyers. I also asked for pricing for all the types of overlays that folks expressed interest in. I know folks don't want to commit to anything unless they see the product and know the pricing. I completely understand. I hope he does too. Also, haven't heard from any volunteers in the San Diego area other than Luxury (and he is a few hours away). Border411...I also told him you were willing to pay for the overlays and be the "guinea pig". Haven't heard back yet. Sorry I don't have more news. I'll update you guys once I hear back.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, as I haven't read about this very carefully: Is there much difference if we just get a tint shop to put some tint or maybe a tinted version of those 3M bras over the lights? I think I give my new tint shop a call and see if they do anything like this.

BTW, I saw a guy with some really dark covers on his black 4runner yesterday and I asked him about them and he said it was his sisters and didn't know where she got them from......maybe a swap meet he said. I only had my camera phone, and I don't know how to get those tiny pics out of it yet, so I'll post them if I ever figure that out. Need a bluetooth dongle or to figure how to email them from the phone or something.

Hmmmmmmm.....Interesting. I never even thought of seeing if a local shop could put the tinted 3M clear bra stuff on them. Do they even make the tinted 3M stuff? Bet you it would be super cheap too since the whole front of your car/truck only costs like $150. We are only talking about little rectangles here.

On another note...dont give up on him yet. Maybe he was just too busy to respond.

If the dude still doesn't want to do it, just ask him what material it is and we can do it ourselves. Or if that doesn't work, ask if he will sell us some material. I am probably going to have to mod mine anyway because of my new JDM Chrome Taillight Trim. It would be really sick to be able to get those eye lids for what was it like 11 or 15 bucks. Compared to the $180 the fiberglass ones are....unpainted.....that's a steal!

Only got 14 so far...and not everyone wants the same things. Some want headlights, some taillights, etc. He made it sound like he wanted 2 dozen of each type before he would do it. I've e-mailed him again to ask him to answer my questions about whether he'll do these if we don't get 2 dozen. I've also asked about prices...still no answer. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you guys...gettin' kind of frustrated myself. I've e-mailed him repeatedly and I've either gotten a one-word answer or no response. He's already told me that his overlays are made from 7 Year High Performance Vinyl. If you guys want to try to get the materials yourself and try it, go for it. I may do that myself since I'm not getting too far with this. If one of you guys want to try e-mailing him, give it a shot. Maybe you'll get further than I did. FYI...I'll be leaving on vacation in a few days and will only have limited internet access, so I won't be able to follow up too much. As always, I'll let you know if I hear from him.

If someone did make it themselves, it would be cool if someone........maybe me........scanned in the pattern, on 11x17 scanner is probably the easiest, and posted the files for everyone to download. Now where do we get this material you are talking about.....anybody have any idea. This is starting to sound pretty fun........better than frustrating email correspondence hugh Ed? I hate it when vendors don't have good customer service.

Ok...so the "7 year vinyl" is EXACTLY what the clear bra material is. Do they make tinted material? I will try to do some research. If I can get my hands on some I will make up a template and try to scan it in. FYI---I am super busy at the Sheriffs Dept, so I dont know when I will be able to get all this done. Someone else want to give it a go???

i'm trying to figure that out. looks like they range from permanent pressure sensitive adhesive on one extreme to static-cling only on the other extreme:

I heard back from Andrew. He said that because there isn't a big market for 4Runner overlays, he has to charge for the test set. (Border411 - I know you were willing to do that. You may want to e-mail him directly to see if he wants to work with you on that. I already told him I didn't get any volunteers in San Diego, but he knows you're willing to be a tester. He'll just have to get access to a 4Runner out there.) Also, he said that the overlays will cost us between $10 and $40, depending on the type. He didn't specify a price for each type. He also said that he would only do one design at a time and go from there. He won't do a bunch at once because he needs to be selective with what he does because of all the requests he gets. Since we didn't get a volunteer from San Diego, I'm not sure if he access to another 4Runner to use as a template. If he doesn't, he may not want to do this. If anyone wants to ask him questions directly, his e-mail address is [email protected]. I'm off on vacation for a week or so. I'll have very limited access to e-mail, but I'll try to check in.
