Smugglin' fireworks

As July 4th was coming up, I decided to take the weekend off and go on a road trip to Blacksburg, VA. I stayed in the 'burg Friday night to Sat. early afternoon. After the pit stop in the 'burg, I decided to go down to Charlotte, NC where one of my friends lives. I haven't seen her in a year so I decided to visit her. Realizing July 4th was coming up in few days, I felt like making a trip down to Fort Mill, SC and stock up on fireworks. My 2004 4Runner drove like a beast! Although I must say I had some close calls with severe thunderstorms (and tornados from what I've heard...) touching down in Williamsburg through Waynesboro Friday night. Branches were falling all over the place with 80+mph winds. There was a 4 ft branch with leaves that nearly missed the right side of the 4R (obviously I inspected the vehicle for damages the next day) and fortunately, there are none! Ran into the same storm issues on my way back from SC through Emporia where they had severe thunderstorms too on Sunday...it seems like the thunderstorms are following me everywhere I go.

Here's a picture of the fireworks in my 4R.

Great observations :fro: exactly what I was thinking!!! :bravo: I need to make my way up to some Washington state Indian reservations and get me share of explosives, maybe some chronic as well.

Who said third row seats reduce cargo capacity? Nice haul! I love states where fireworks are legal. I just came back from Pennsylvania and they sold fireworks at Walmart for everyday low prices. Sadly, I didn't take any back to Jersey.

Cool story! I've been itching to take a pointless road trip myself lately. I can't wait to just load up the 4r and drive somewhere.

How many miles did u drive?

Pointless road trips rock :guitar3: Especially if they involve explosives :boink:

Be safe and try not to loose any digits :thumb3:

@Mark86 - Thanks man! I was worried about having third row seating when I first scooped the 4Runner. I had plans to take 'em out of the truck if I needed space in the back. However, after reading posts in this one thread that was basically filled with 'secrets' that anyone could use in the 4th gen 4Runners and I eventually came across a post that showed you were able to hook the 3rd row seatings on the hand handle on the roof which was a relief for me! Loving this 4Runner every second of the day, although I must say I miss my 3rd gen '99... :( this 4R was a wonderful upgrade for me, and I couldn't be anymore happier than I am now.

From my permanent residence to Blacksburg where I currently live, it is about 315 miles. Altogether after stopping by Charlotte, Fort Mill, then heading back home through Emporia, it was about 560 miles. Total miles driven: 876 miles. I had lots of fun during this pointless trip as it was a wonderful stress reliever for me to get out of the city and enjoy a long drive by myself. We all need one of those trips here and there as we live in a hectic world today ;)

Sorry for the late bump, I haven't visited the forums since July as I've been keeping busy working two jobs while taking classes in the summer before heading back to Blacksburg for the year.
