Snaped wheel spacer stud (ALL-Pro)

I got a pair of All Pro 1.5 wheel spacers. Gives the vehicle a nice stance but the wheel studs on the adaptor are questionable....

Installation of the spacers to the hub went perfect torqued the inner nuts to the suggested 90 ft/lbs. Then I installed my wheels (steel rims) torqued them to 85 ft/lbs using a quality accurate SnapOn torque wrench. (I might add I come from a family of journeyman mechanics and I def know what Im talking about). The installation and torque sequence was correct. I felt a little bit of stretch in some of the studs while torqueing them down which concerned me a little. Several weeks latter I got a set of new tires. I re-checked the adaptors while the wheels where off, and all the torque values were fine. Upon re-installation of the wheels, I felt a little bit of stretch in the studs again. But to my surprise ONE OF THE Studs ACTUALY SNAPPED OFF!!!!!!

I contacted ALL Pro to see if I could get some replacement studs and they said they will just send me a whole new spacer free of change. I asked what grade the studs are that they use and they couldn't answer the question because the spacers are NOT made by them. I asked the All pro rep if anyone else has had this problem and she said yes....:shocked::nono:

I just wanted to share this and see if anyone else has encountered this problem. Maybe I can find some higher quality studs that can take the place of the current ones idk.....

That is pretty concerning.
 
They didn't provide a torque spec for the studs. Just the inner stock studs, which the adaptor bolts to (90ft/lbs).

I should have gone with Spidertrax i guess. If my wheel sheers off on the freeway at the Adaptor studs im gonna be super pissed haha :uzi:

Indeed. After personally knowing one of the tool bags they employed, I'll never buy a thing from them.

A tough lesson, but a lesson learned. There's a reason that Spidertrax has the rep they have. I guarantee that if you call them they'll tell you the grade of their studs, any torque spec you need, and even the construction process of their adpaters.

Another company that you can think about is Bora. I have handled their 1" Adapters and they seem to be very well made. No shakes on the freeway, provided torque specs, etc =p They also make MANY different sizes, not just 1.25" and 1.5".

That's an AutoZone Special. That's NOTHING like a reputable wheel spacer, like SpiderTraxx.

Would I run a UNIVERSAL(above video) wheel spacer from AutoZone, or any of those other places, no.

Do I run wheel spacers? YES. SpiderTrax 1.5". Have I had a single issue out of them in the last year and a half I've owned them? **** NO.

I guess im going to just run them for now and see what happens.

I was thinking I could even replace the studs myself with better ones if need be form an auto parts store. The Aluminum spacer it self appears to be well made. They my have just gone with cheapo low grade studs. ehh who knows.

1) It's AllPro. People have had issues from all their stuff for a while.

2) It's the Freaking stud. Replace the stud and it'll be ok.

3) The actual spacer didn't break like the video you posted.

4) OP mentions that the spacers ARE NOT made by them, and in all actuality, hey are made in China, like the rest of the crap AllPro sells.

Go with a good spacer, ie SpiderTrax, that is made in the USA and uses grade 8 studs, and you won't have an issue.

Any other questions?

im running the allpro 1.25" on my truck, with 42's. no issues so far.

its been a while since I mounted mine, but I thought the torque spec they give is for the mount studs. you would use the OEM spec for the original studs.
 
I just came across this thread... and wanted to comment since we have used All-Pro spacers on numerous occasions without any problems. Make sure you are not using an impact gun. The grade of the studs are marked by the lines on the back. The AP spacers have 6, meaning they meet SAE Grade 8 Standards. AP may not produce the spacers, but they do make their own brand name parts in house, not China.
