I know 3rd gens aren't exactly "rare", but if y'all could stop wrecking em, that'd be great. Lord knows they are expensive enough already.
That being said, sorry to hear. Snow tires are cheap as hell, but worth their weight in gold. Highly recommend a set. Drive safe out there guys!

I'd say a solid 9 out of 10 vehicles I see either in wrecks or in the ditch are 4x4. and 90% of the rest are crappy 2 wheel drive sedans with bald highway tires that have no business driving anywhere other than flatland, summer-year-round, visit-when-you-retire-and-can-barely-walk locations.
There really is no in-between, which I think is interesting and kind of funny. Everyone else driving the midway capable vehicles are too terrified to drive faster than 30 under the speed limit, and they get from A to B just fine. they've got a line of irritated drivers behind them five miles long, but they arrive alive and wreck free every time.

I wish I was driving like an ass when it happened then I would say I deserved it, But I was driving like an old man. I was coming down a steep icy hill started to slide out with about two hundred pounds of gear in the back. I'm glad I hit the trees. On the other side of the road in the ditch was a mom and baby in a mini van.

Slight update
Slight update. I drove my busted up four runner from Maine to Ohio. Over six hundred miles in one day. Ran like a champ until the rear differential grenaded five hours from home somewhere near Syracuse. Hobbled it to a Wal-Mart bought some pb blaster, two 14mm wrenches, and a 2.5lb sledge. Didn't look how long it took me to rip out the Driveshaft but it was faster than the guys next to me in the parking lot trying to replace a headlight. Put it in four hi and off we go. I left at 830 yesterday morning and got home just after midnight

Exploded 4Runner rear dif r&p do not work this way because if the wheels are rolling the gears are turning. Maybe I misunderstand? That or you had Mr. Toad's bumpy ride.

As much as overconfidence with 4x4 can be a factor, there are still those icy hill situations where you can find yourself on a Krazy Karpet ride.
Sounds like you're pretty handy so hopefully it'll "buff right out". If not, my old man is a television repairman and he's got this ultimate set of tools, I can fix it.

4Runners aren't rare, but finding one that isn't beat to hell at a price that isn't astronomical is getting pretty hard.

I find most 3rd gens in good condition. Harder to find a cheap beat one imo. It's like people in CO really love there Toyotas.
Interesting. You should buy here in Miami - cheap beat 4runners all over. Many are 4wd, but not all ELocker. Mostly SR5, mostly all under 6k and a few with under 200k miles.
EDIT: In the northwest and northeast, people use these trucks are as a tool - people down here are just poor, and use these as a cheap, reliable people mover. I see some on the road that have multiple bent body panels, suspension sagging all over the place, oxidized paint and bald tires, broken tail-lights, but still plugging along. No inspections in Florida so...

That makes total sense. Here they are soccer mom cars. Almost everyone I see is way better than mine. But I got mine cheap.
