Snow Offroading - Los Angeles

Hey does anyone on here know of any open trails around this time of year which are likely snow covered? :lookout: I'm thinking Angeles Crest is usually closed. Maybe the Frasier Park area.
Anyone going this weekend or want to go explore some trail?

Not sure what the coverage is up at big bear off mountain, but on mountain they're making snow and live streaming cams show a decent base on the hill itself (there are fire roads that snake all around on the opposite side of the mountain from the resort itself).

No guarantees though as to whether or not the fire roads around and behind the mountain are snow covered or not.

Lake Arrowhead webcams show small amounts of snow but nothing like the kind of coverage you're probably looking for.

That's all I know of in the LA area outside of Angeles Crest that you mentioned but even there, Mt. Wilson's tower-cam looks snow-free. Further east of there, past Waterman it's closed for a bit, so that may indicate some coverage.

Thanks, Yah just looked into it and the snow level is still too high. Just figured it would be snowed in with all this rain. I guess it will have to wait until another week, unless anyone on here tips me off on a snow trail

That'll be awesome if true. They also said that last years El Nino is going to be the biggest one yet. Pfffftttt. It only rained like a day.

I've done lots of wheeling in snow near Green Valley Lake. If it's cold enough the level will drop down to Silverwood lake, or near there. Tons of trails, from fire roads to good crawling fun. Take a friend if you go!

Get yourself to Crab Flats and explore from there.

There's a lot of snow above 7,500 ft in Sequoia now, and probably a lot up at Mt. Pinos. But the damn cops keep closing the road to Mt. Pinos because morons in beater econoboxes keep trying to drive up there to sled and end up sliding off the road.

I'm hopeful the novelty of snow wear off in the coming days and they plow and open the Mt. Pinos road for good, so folks can snowshoe there and cross-country ski! There's a cross country ski shop at the top of the mountain that goes dormant for years when there's no snow

The recent "storms" have been warm, as is the forecast rain for Monday. That means high snow levels, like 7500 feet.
I'd also look to the Mt. Piños area, including Lockwood Valley.
Other than that, the Sierras.

Back about 10 years ago, we drove up to the top of that mountain during an incoming snowstorm. We ended up having to camp on the deck of that ranger station up at the top. Man it snowed so hard that and it was so white out, we parked the truck right in front of the no parking sign and set the tents on the deck in front of the no camping sign Haha

Here in Colorado, almost every trail in the mountains has snow. Not a huge fan of it, but I see the appeal. No help, sorry
