snowboard bench

I had a spare non-rideable snowboard laying around so i thought..what better to do with it than make a bench

I used a 15 degree angle on the legs to achieve the 11" width and 16" height. Two support beams go across it one is 36" and the other is 39"

I used 2 coats of Valspar exterior/interior royal blue gloss spray paint

I ended up buying 4 2x4x96" boards and well the actual cut is 1.5x3.5x96" which screwed up some of my measurements until I realized it. Why is it called two by fours if it's not really 2x4"? Anyway i only used 2 so now I'll need to think of a new project for the other two boards.

The snowboard is an old Burton Jussi 157.5

Total cost was under $25 and would have been cheaper if i did not get the extra two boards

There's a snowboarding shop in Sacramento, which is 90miles from here. Sierra Snowboard. They did the same thing, but has a backrest as well. So they turned (2) boards into a bench.

Would you have a picture of homemade rack for your snowboards? If you have one.

My friend just used simple bicycle hooks on a wll. When they are placed on the wall, they are in a 45* angle.

I'll eventually put a back on this one when I have another spare board. I wanted it to be boards I've actually ridden so I won't just buy a used one.

I haven't come up w a holder yet or even a work bench for waxing it. I'm hoping this winter I'll have something done.

I've heard of Sierra they always have such great sales.

Why is it called two by fours if it's not really 2x4"?

It's one of those whacked things in life. :nono: I think its true dimensions on a 2x4 is actually 1.75"x3.75", because it's a "finished" stud. Unfinished 2x4s trully measure 2"x4", but I've yet to seen such a piece of lumber.

For the same reasons why some pipes are measured with the inside diameter while others are measured on the outside. It sucks, when it's forgotten about and fittings don't work out coming home from the store.

You will find that lumber is measured using the rough dimensions. IE 2x4, 4x6 etc. but they will plane off 1/8" of each side. so you end up losing a 1/2" per side. Obviously they don't plane the ends, so a 2x4x96 is actually a 1.5x3.5x96

yeah, sucks when you plan for a true 2x4.

that will be a hard pill to swallow when you need to hang up the T6. thats a good board. but as long as you put it to get use afterwards you can amdire it for many years.


you know whats funny is when i was reading the tag of the lumber when i purchased it they even put 'actual cut size' yet it didnt click when i went to get the screws. im like a kid in a candy store when i go to lowes/home depot, my brain just shuts off and i get so excited. at least screws are cheap and i can always use extras

very. I'm only about a buck 40 but my friend and I both sat on it without it even flexing. The extra lumber across the bottom makes it sturdy.

very cool. I made a crappy one of those when i was in high school. It's still at my parents house though. I'll take a picture and post it up next time i go home to visit. Actually I'll just have my brother email me some pics. Maybe i can get them up tomorrow.

To be honest I don't think I've even sat on it more than 3x since I made it. I've been out of propane so I don't go on my patio much.

Well i finally remembered to take a picture of my bench lol. Not as nice looking as urs lefty, but it gets the job done. We use it when we are putting our skates on. Just got the rink flooded and ready for the season last night. It's already 1/2" thick! Hopefully it'll be skateable by this weekend!

That skating rink thing is CRAZY!! That must be pretty tough getting such a big area leveled off enough to do that...especially in the mountains...

I like the ropes around it...that is pretty funny, but I bet it has kept more than one person from flying into the trees!

yeah it was a long process getting it all leveled out. But of corse its not perfect. :redbrick:

The ropes are mainly to keep the deer and elk off. Last year I came outside and there was one standing in the middle of it before it had completely frozen. Unfortunately it broke the liner and we had to buy a new one. :crybaby:

Hopefully we wont have that issue this year.
