So Cal preferred communication
While there are many way to communicate between our vehicles, CB radio, FRS and HAM, most of us have decided that HAM is the best way to communicate between vehicles.
HAM radio does require a license to transmit. Many of us do have a license or are working on it but nothing prevents you from listening on the conversation without a license and it greatly helps to know when there are obstacles ahead or other vehicles coming the opposite way on a trail. Spotters often transmit on HAM to get you through a tough spot on the trail.
Hand held HAM radios by brands such as Baofang can be purchased cheaply from Amazon.
There are usually members that can help you program your radio before every run to get you on the right channels.
While all three of the above are available the HAM is the most used.

OK it's time for a lift.

After the last two runs at Calico and Big Bear I could no longer take the beating my 4Runner was taking on the trails. It is stock height and the skid plates and muffler really took a beating. The muffler looks like the moon with all the craters I added. I have pulled the skid plates off and beat them back into submission but that can’t keep happening.
After a lot of looking around I decided what the best lift and tires were for me.
Suspension Front:
Toytec Boss 2.5 series coilover 1-3” lift. Fully adjustable.
Total Chaos UCA
Suspension Rear:
Toytec Boss 1-3” rear shocks
Toytec 2” super flex rear coils
Misc:
Super Lube synthetic grease - suggested
Tires:
BFG KTO2 275-70-17 not a lot of options for the size.

Yea every time I've been on a run with you your skid plates take a beating, but hey you waited to find your vehicles limit before you went out and got a lift :bigok:
As for myself I have a huge laundry list of things that I need/ want to do. Most of these I've just been putting off due to my schedule but hey she keeps on going no complaints haha
-fix my horn, intermittent
-rebuild front axle and seals
-reupholster door skins
-replace brake booster/mc
-replace TRE's
-new battery
-install HO alternator that I've had just sitting
And the fun stuff
-new rear bumper
-sliders
-skids
-F&R locker
-reagear F&R
-full time 12v outlet in the rear cargo space and the dash
-new sound system

I love to see what all of these different rigs are capable of. I've had my fair share of body and skid beatings now. Same reason I decided it was time to make the lift happen. [MENTION=77357]85straight[/MENTION] you seem to have your work cut out for you. But it sounds like fun tho.

Ya I've been putting it all off for over a year now, but once I gather all the parts its only a weekends worth of work really
I have to admit I was impressed that you were willing to take your truck up those trails in near bone stock condition. All I could see that you'd done to it were the sliders (wise move!).
FWIW, my truck has a pretty minor lift - it's about 1.5" up in the front and 0.75" up in the back. I'm using FJ Cruiser springs and Bilstein 5100s w/ the fronts set to the 0.85" setting. I didn't want to raise it much because retaining good on-road manners is important to me. The higher up in the air these things go, the higher the center of gravity and the worse cornering and braking become.
Tire-wise, I went with the Bridgestone Revo 2s. These are the lightest-weight Load E / LT tire you can get. In 265/70/17, they're literally 7lbs lighter per wheel than a BFG KO2 (Load E). That's a big reason why I went with them. Tough but light. Unsprung weight is thy enemy. They're not as aggressive as a KO2 in terms of tread or looks but the tires definitely get the job done. They're also quiet and have nice road manners.
In any event, there were only two places my truck kissed the ground on the Big Bear run: The first time was on 3N61/Jacoby Canyon, about 10-15 minutes into the run. There were a couple of pretty large rock obstacles to negotiate around. I was driving right behind you and I saw your truck get hung up a bit on the rocks. The same thing happened to me and my truck crashed down on one of my sliders. Hey, that's why I bought 'em... The second time I got some scrapeage was on the rocks right after going through The Squeeze. I think that was a combination of my front RCI skid and my fuel tank skid (factory, looks like ish now...).
BTW, after watching your video I noticed you had a pretty tough time getting past that one point where Miah was spotting us. I'm thinking some proper AT tires that are aired down and you'd walk up that no problem.
BTW2 - When I got to that spot, Miah got on the radio and said "Ooh, now here's a pretty rig." Now that made my day....

This obstacle? hahah. I was just out in Jacoby right before the 4th of July with some TW guys, and I no I didn't touch my sliders.
Coming down the hill, we had a truck throw a UCA uniball bolt, so we were on the trail for awhile. I played a little bit with my flex.

That's it!! It appears as if you had a spotter. I had no such luxury.
He was spotting the 2wd trucks through. I just picked my line, threw it in 4lo, and tried not to hit anything.

i miss the sound of the V8 on my tundra (which wife drives now) and although this isn't anything close... it satisfied my fix for a quick mod [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

So spit it out what the hell kind of exhaust did you have installed? Full exhaust, dual exhaust cat back exhaust, or a muffler and a tip? Did you exit front , back, side to side or down pipe it? Brand? Can we get a sound vid clip of it?

Well no matter what we can get them done next weekend along with everyone else's suspensions or what not...I'm noticing a lot of suspensions getting installed around here this month...mmm?!!!
I hope I am the A**hole to blame for anyone's damage they may have taken and because of that damage that I am also the root cause to you spending all of your money!!! I wonder how times the word "Miah" has come up when the wife's see the credit card statements...all the guys just say " it's Miah's fault, talk to him"...lol
