holy jim on sunday! anyone?!?

I typically avoid Holy Jim on the weekends unless I'm getting there REALLY early to go hike up towards the Main Divide/Santiago Peak. Too many stupid people that think they have trophy trucks jamming around that road.

Yes. On one end you have the "bros" bombing around the corners, and on the other hand you have the heeps cutting trails through brush and playing in the creek beds/heep hill. If you just want to play in the dirt and get some views, it looks like Maple Springs is open. That will take you all the way up to Santiago Peak without going around to Ortega and taking Main Divide up. I haven't run it, but some Tacoma buddy's have a couple times now. It's just a fire road, nothing special, 2wd can do it.

If you get there early enough it's not terrible. Most of the people come out starting early afternoon. You could easily get there at 8 or 9, hike the falls, and be out before the chaos starts. It's a fairly quick hike.

that's exactly the time frame we were planning on! i'll try it and see how crowded it is, if there are to many brohams/heeps i'll take your alternate route suggestion. thanks for all the help dude! where is a good place to start up then park and hike the trails?

There's a large parking area with a sign and a pota potty then you'll have to walk up the road to the trail head. Don't park up by the cabins, it's unlikely, but you could risk a tow as that's all private parking for the people who live in them.

every time i've been down HJT it's never been that bad. even a couple times after it rained. i did pass some idiots who high centered their f150 once, though. that was funny. once you get to the trailhead you'll know where to park and start the hike. go right and it'll keep you driving on trabuco canyon road, to the left is the start of holy jim.

you can go up maple springs to main divide and hike down to the "falls" if you want. maple springs is chill, main divide road is SHITTY. i kinda want to head to santiago canyon just to drive around and look at the homes. pretty cool little neighborhood. feels like you're in a mountain town. if you were doing ortega to santiago peak you'd probably want 4WD. the last climb up is super steep and shitty with lots of loose rocks.

It looks like you went with the twin. I helped a buddy install one in his Jeep today. That thing is bad ass. I went with the single, but after getting his installed, I'm already wishing I had bought the twin! All of that's going to be a helluva set up for you.
