So Cal 4Runner BS Thread

Plus, it's a nice security feature. You'll get to leave your sunroof wide open while you are doing your shopping or whatever so your truck doesn't become an oven.
Holy crap! How did I never think of this??!! That's brilliant. I'm going to go open my sunroof right now!

I've got all the parts now-when is a good time for you guys? I'm free this Saturday, for example, and I can probably swing either Saturday or Sunday next weekend. With some heads up weekdays are workable too. Let me know what works for you guys.

Get cross bars if you even think that an RTT is in your future. I had to get cross bars added to mine. Yes you lose a little bit of space, but there is still plenty for firewood, more bins/boxes, etc. i've never used the entire length of the rack at once (except for my RTT) so do you really think you need THAT much real estate for stuff on your roof? you'll likely fill up the cargo area of the rig first, before loading up your roof.

Don't get the removeable sunroof insert. I've never taken it out so it's been a waste of money. If you don't use your sunroof now, you still won't with a rack on. Plus, it's a nice security feature. You'll get to leave your sunroof wide open while you are doing your shopping or whatever so your truck doesn't become an oven.

No cross bars. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a basket.

Both Good Ideas. I am still getting the insert and will use security hardware to lock it in. I am not getting cross bars, Ill never use a RTT I have a trailer for that. Joe will make removable crossbars later so Ill pick one up when that day comes. I usually throw 1 or 2 EZ ups there plus stroller and other stuff esp when the 3rd row is up.

Sad days might be ahead....I might be trading in the 4runner for a tundra....that towing capacity is just a thorn in my side. Does anyone know if 4runner shocks fit the tundra? I

Probably not. But you gotta do what you gotta do. Look for a V8 runner?

Also. I'm good finally. Longest 1 1/2 weeks of pavement ever. Hit 500.1 as I pulled into the driveway. Everything is working good. Center diff locked and unlocked without moving. Popped into 2wd without a hitch. I'm excited to test everything out in dirt.

(Left is good gear oil, right is break-in oil)

I was thinking that but with my toys and gear ill probably be right at that weight. Im picking up the tow hauler tomorrow with airbags and a brake controller so Ill see how it does. its 4200 dry and my quad is already 500...

I did 170 miles with a little over 5k behind my rig. Held strong. At 55-60mph.

Thanks I feel a little bit better knowing that.

Ya I was reading online and I think gearing is the main reason for the towing capacity. The 4th gen can tow about 7k with the same wheelbase, and the Tacoma can with the motor but LT tires. I have a WDH, steering stabilizer, airbags and a p3 brake controller. My trailer is about 4218lbs and my quad is 500lbs alone. So I'll be at the limit or just over with gear, wood etc.

It seems tiny but the braided brake lines will help. It's not going change the world but it will increase brake response.
Also when you you, ad some weight over the rear axle. It will make It a bit more stable on the freeway

Swap top hats or add the adapter plate/top hat if eye mount shock.
And yes I have rear fox Tundra shocks

Awesome your the man. I have just over a year on my lease so I will see how the 4runner does until then. Hoping for a diesel/v8 4runner or diesel tundra. I have to install airbags still and adjust the WDH for more tension. Without it the sag is bad and I am looking to get stiffer springs and possibly jump to 3in tall. The icons sat a bit lower than the front already.

Here’s was my rear set up: (partially still is)
Allpro 3.5” lift springs
w/Daystar 1.5” rear spacers
Fox 2.0 shocks

Even with this the rear set up sat 1” lower than the front (unloaded)but with Tire carrier bumper & 35” Tire mounted on it.

When completely (loaded) down I would drop 1.5”-1.75”
Which having that much rake and loaded down all of my rigs weight including the engine weight is now shifted all to the rear ...no bueno

So I just recently added Airlift 10.5” tall (air bags) the tallest ones they make. li and Icon 2.5’s w/res custom length shocks.
And now completely loaded down I sit perfectly Level from front to back 42.5” from ground to wheel well.
So when unloaded I can compensate for that 1” lose by just adding 10psi to the bags when daily driving
When loaded down I fill them up to 30-35psi to make up for the 1” + 1.5-1.75” weight gain height lose.
Just food for thought...

But air bags like you are thinking about doing solved any sag issues 100% and make a world of difference on pavement and off pavement and my rig and it’s rear end love it much more....
It will solve any worries you may have using your 4runner to tow with. And actually I just recently installed a set of airbags on TheSentinels 5th gen and pulls the same size trailer as you (in the above pic) and has pretty much the same suspension as well...maybe he can add his .02 on how his setup handles when towing and now air bags.

And the air bags even keep the rig completely Level when full “flex-in” now that’s what’s up...

Was out in Anza this weekend. Attempted to do sandstone canyon but there were new collapses so about a 2 miles in it was impassable at the time. But still a good time! Even got to see Oneluv13T4R driving home on the freeway!
