So i went with Yoks Geolander AT/S

I went from BFG AT KO (265/70/17) to GW SA (265/70/17) to Yokohama Geolander AT/S (265/65/17). The only good thing about the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tires are long wearing, powder snow, and the looks --that's it. Otherwise, The tire is a tadbit noisy on freeway and the wet handling is so bad, it skips at turns even in city drive (fishtail). If you get off the freeway turns(dry road), you better slow down otherwise you will be skipping off the road. I could imagine what would have happened if i didn't have X-REAS and Traction Control. Also, the 4Runner starts to shake on the freeway starting @ 55mph. Then goes away after about 65-70mph. Just my experience.

I'll let you all know about this Geolander AT/S after a month or so. I only have like 10 miles on them.

I have a set on mine and they are great. And you can't go wrong with the price. Got mine put on about 3 weeks ago. Since then we have gotten about 20" of snow and they hold up great.

Why did you downsize

I downsized for a couple reasons:

1. I felt like my rig couldn't get up with the 265/70/17 size tires. I really have to step on the pedal to get it to go. Some peeps on the road look at me and stare at the V8 emblem and would like to laugh at me. Now with the 265/65/17's, i can feel more power as if the 4runner got lighter.

2. With the 265/70/17's, i have to be extra careful when i cross bumps. With the 265/65/17's, looks like i got that cushion between the top of the tire and the fenderwell when i go over bumps especially when i visit someone with their driveway so high.

Other than that i'm happy. Wish it would snow so i can test drive these Geo's and see what they're capable of.

So the 265/70/17s would catch the plastic fascia in the wheel well? Front, rear, or both? I was under the impression that there was enough clearance to accommodate the 265/70/17s...

The reason I'm asking, I need to replace the tires on my wife's GX and I wanted to go up a size.

Front, that's only if you accidently go over those big bumps or something in that nature kinda like my neighbor's driveway. The back is ok. When i looked at my side door, it says the OEM tire and rim size was: 265/70/16. I got the '03 Limited so i don't know what other 4runner trim says (SE, SR5, etc).

Mike, you will love the AT/S. As i have been saying all along, those Yokos AT/S are one of the best value AT tire on the market! They look cool too!

Same here. I have the GY Wranglers and love them. No problems in rain, no problems with bouncing around while driving. Excellent traction all around on them. I find them to be am exceptional tire.

Even with our cross-country 5,000 mile trip in August with rain, snow, ice, and everything else out to Montana they were great.

yup, the butt dyno never lies... i just put my winter tires on, which are smaller than the 33's i run normally.. big difference

I'm surprised you felt that much of a power difference between the 65's and 70's that people were actually looking at you because you couldn't get up and go with the v8. I have 70 on my V8 and it tears a$$.

It's about time it snowed in CO. Tires handled the powdered snow roads easily. In the neighborhood, skidded a bit on ice @ 15mph on 4Hi @ 5spd, TCS kicked in (bell was ringing) and i was able to get my balance by steering the other way real quick. Whew! *scared me a little bit.

My mistake ! She has Toyo open country AT's. She likes them alot in snow and rain , quiet and smooth.

They are nice looking tires Mike , I see they have AT and AT II 's , but not sure what the difference is . Maybe a new style or something , The IT tire looks like a great tire also and is severe weather rated , but directional tires from what i understand.

I would like to try lots of tires ....lol. I like the Cooper Discover ATR's or the Cooper Discover ST's.

I've got these Geolander A/T's on mine, and they won't be there next winter.

IMNTBHO* - They suck in the snow.
They don't hold a candle to the BFG A/T KO's I had on my Tacoma.

I'm just hoping BFG makes them in something beside a load range E by next winter.
