So long to my 2004 after 284k!

Sad day yesterday as I said so long to the best vehicle I've ever owned! It was time. Rust had really taken it's toll on the frame and the exhaust manifolds and I couldn't justify the dollars to repair it.

Thanks to all the great people on this forum for ALL the help over the years. It certainly made ownership even better!

Wow you put on twice the mileage compared to my 2004... well good luck and don't be that person and buy a Heep or Exploder! Just curious, but did you have any major repairs other than the TB/WP? I just want to know what to expect for the next 140k miles.

I to an curious to know the Runners history. Any major repairs or replacements needed to keep it running this long? Did you ever have issues with the Head Gasket?

I've got a 2005 v6 with only 113000. I'd love to get past the 250k!

My 2003 Sport V8 has been the best vehicle I've ever owner also, evidenced by how long I've kept it. I am the original owner. The rust is starting to eat my frame also. Every year I bring it in for inspection they say, 'ya know your going to have to fix that frame rust soon'. No holes yet and once that happens I'll have to decide if I want to spend to fix it. Inspection is up next month, fingers crossed.

To answer a few of the questions...

Original owner. Only major issue was the head gasket failure.

Buying, not sure, but another 4Runner is definitely in play.

Trans, never touched. The metal line that runs under the radiator in front rusted, so I replaced it and about a quart of fluid.

And I blame my daughter for that front passenger tire!! Women...

If you really want go with another 4runner, make sure you take a really good look at the 5th gen if thats the route you want to go. I bought a 2015 5th gen after trading in my 04 after the head gasket failed, and I ended up trading that in for an 07 because I missed the 4th gen. I felt for what I paid, it was way behind competitors in creature comforts and quality. But thats just me.
