I have been going back and forth between 4th and 5th generation, but with Toyotathon on I thought I would go to a dealer and see what kind of deals there are doing. The salesman said trail editions are hard to come by and I would be lucky to get $1000 of MSRP. (This is in San Diego.) I am about to head east (I live half-time on each coast), so I can check dealers on the way. The trail edition does not seem to be common, most dealers seem to have one in stock.

Toyota of Lake City has one, Toyota of Kirkland has 3 (one with Nav), and Michael's Toyota in Bellevue has one. Flights from Long Beach to SeaTac are cheap... just sayin'
Unfortunately on my trip I am taking a southerly route and no time to fly up to Seattle. Will be keeping my eyes out for them, though, in route. There is a used 2010 trail version with KDDS with under 8000 miles available close by asking $36,000. Don't know if that is a good deal or not.

I paid 37,600 with NAvi and KDSS and a 6yr/125k warranty back in July in the Boston area.

Oh, and I meant to say I believe there are a bunch in the New England area for sale.
That would be great, thanks. Seems like there is not much inventory out west and I should wait until I get out east. And thanks to everyone for the feedback.
none with KDSS, except a 2010 demo I found in RI with 13k miles and not so great black paint.

Once again, never trust the underlings at a stealership! I got my Trail Edition from Redlands Toyota, in Southern CA for way under invoice. Though I can't entirely endorse Redlands Toyota (Sales Manager was shady and too pushy, wanted to give me $7k, $8k max for a truck I sold to CARMAX for $13k), their internet sales people were helpful. Your best friend is the internet sales department and Zag.com, are you a USAA member? Also, there are numerous Toyota dealerships in the San Diego area, I want to say people have said good things about Toyota of Carlsbad. There's a huge dealership in Escondido too, but have only been there for parts. Good luck getting your TE!

LOL at thinking Toyotathon or any other mass campaign to get foot traffic to dealers will net any good deal. I would suggest that you do a search for "invoice", but then again, you will have to slug through one billion-trillion threads that you obviously "do not have time for" since it is all tied up in Toyotathon participation.

I did check the dealers in San Diego. No trail versions that I could find. But further east is looking good.

Sorry the one in Bellevue is gone, I picked it up the other day. It was a 2010 Trail Edition with 7000 miles and KDSS. I got lucky and got it for what I thought was a great deal $34k out the door including GAP and Platinum Warranty and Toyota Certified. Good luck on your hunt, I love mine and I know you will enjoy yours when you get it.

Back in Sept I bought a 2010 Trail with KDSS/NAV for $36,400. Sticker was $41,200.
I first got on cars.com, built the vehicle I wanted and had them contact all dealers in my area. Within an hour I had 5 quotes back. I then called the dealers with the two best quotes and then went to one of them. They had a silver TE, I test drove it and decided to buy but told them I wanted blue. They found one a 100 miles away. Then I told them people on the board where getting TE's for invoice. He went to the "Sales Manager/Water Cooler" and came back with $200 over invoice because they had to go pick up the truck in Tulsa. I said OK and had it the next day.

I called up a salesman at a dealer I know in Baltimore from whom I bought a Toyota in the past (was not a 4runner or I would still be driving it), told him what people are paying, and he said he would check with his manager and get back to me. Of course, I still need to drive one, but from what people are telling me about KDSS on-road performance, I lean to the 5th generation over the 4th a bit. There is a 2009 out there with a bit under 40,000 miles for around $26,000. What I don't know is if I could set up a back to back drive-off.
