It's a sick feeling when someone steals your stuff. I hope it all gets sorted out. My prayers are with your family.

At least your family is alright. Cars can always be replaced. Too bad the cops didn't shoot them. Not sure how it is in TX but in NM those bad guys would be out by Monday ready to steal again.
A 2008 Camry. Initially we were told it was totaled, but that's not it in the video. The impound is right by my house, so I'll drive by on the way home. 8 cars were hit in our neighborhood last night, 3 in our cul-de-sac. I've never heard of that before. Our area is so quiet and calm. The only thing I can think of is the close proximity to a toll road.
not that i can tell, which i don't understand. my keys were in the house, but there's no damage to the door. typically i just leave my keys in it, but when i take them out, it's just habit to lock the doors then put the keys in my back pocket. i don't know that it would have mattered, however, as my neighbor's car had a window busted out.
similar thing happened to me in the 90's. I had a full sized chevy Z-71. Got stolen while I was in a best buy.
three days later it was totaled in a high-speed police chase, including a helicopter.
detectives were following it to try and find where the house they were operating out of was. They blew through a stop sign in front of a police car. It escalated from there.
they served more time for the high-speed chase than for stealing my truck.
sucks all around.

So you're saying sometimes you leave the 4runner keys in the truck doors unlocked like overnight? Otherwise the doors are locked if you take keys with you? I'm confused. I had a buddy who lived in a bad part of town and he would leave his car doors unlocked so if someone tried to break in, they wouldn't break his glass. Of course he left the car empty and had detachable head unit so...anyway I'm just trying to figure out how they got into your truck
No, you've got it. Typically I just leave the keys in, on the floorboard, doors unlocked. I've felt our neighborhood was quite safe, and lit. Never worried about it.
That night I brought them in. When I went to check the mail, my doors were locked. Only reason I know this is because there was an empty Topo Chico bottle that I wanted to get out.
When putting stuff back in the glovebox while cops were still there, I noticed my glasses were gone, and I wondered if the thieves touched that bottle. It was standing straight up.
After the cops left and shit started to settle, as much as they could at that time, I realized that my bike rack was down. I didn't lower it. Opened my lift gate and my toolbox (Pelican 1400, bright yellow) was gone.
Now I park in the garage.

Crazy. someone tried to shimmy the lock on 4runner a couple months ago. Didnt work out for them. Not going back to that grocery store.
so wife got another car, and we moved into an apartment complex while our house is being built.
on NYE, some girls in the complex (apartment sitting of one of their sisters) had some random guys come over and one of the guys was asked to leave. he ends up going on a rampage...gets on the hood of my wife's car and proceeds to stomp on her windshield. then continues on kicking out taillights and denting panels of other cars.
the morning after, when i discovered this, i saw a cop in the complex and went and chatted with him. after this, i ended up getting the kid's name and phone number from one of the girls, which i then passed along to the cop. as well as a text from one of the girls saying he did it.
how i came about all of that info is a story for another time, but, let's just say - pay attention to your surroundings. especially early 20-somethings driving Raptors.

Man, that sucks. I really hope the rest of your new year is better. Isn't apartment life great? I would've come unglued with anyone stomping on my vehicle.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. Something similar happened to us back in the early 90's. I was still a teenager then. Went to midnight mass on Christmas Eve with my family and my dad parked our minivan on the street since the lot was full. After mass ended (which was around 2 hours), we walk to where my dad parked the minivan and it was gone. All you see were pieces of broken glass from the driver's side door. 3 or so days later, LAPD sees the perp and chases after him. Guy drives away and realizes he couldn't outrun the cops and bails out of the minivan and the minivan keeps going and hits how many vehicles parked on the side of the street. The guy didn't get far as the cops caught up with him and arrested his ass.
This incident happened to me several years ago when I was still living in my condo. I had an aftermarket GPS stereo installed in my vehicle at the time. My wife and I decided to go to our neighborhood Blockbuster store and rent some DVDs and decided to take my 4runner. Long story short, some *******s broke into my vehicle, tore my center console to get my GPS stereo and stole a bunch of CDs. This all happened in the afternoon between 1 and 4 PM. I decided to sleep in my vehicle that evening and luckily I did because some time late at night/early morning, I hear a truck parking behind my vehicle and two guys coming out of the truck. As soon as I heard them, I woke up and yelled who the F**K was there and one of them yelled Oh S**T and they got back in their truck and took off. I heard some chains rattling on the ground while they were driving away so I knew that they were coming back to steal my vehicle.
