So stumped with tires...

Decided on the FJ springs and Bilstien 5100s. That's around $750. I want to get some bigger tires, but still try to stay under 2K total. I'm not going to install it myself so I'm estimating $400-500 for installation. I have no idea what tires I want to get. I want some type of A/Ts or Mud Tires, but I want them to be cheap and not wear out super fast. I'd like them to be around 33". I'm thinking BFgoodrich A/T but the 285/65/18s are kinda steep. What place gives good rates on tires and what could I get iwth the money?

look for ad's around you locally for tire places, sometimes they offer ultra hot deals, other times....not so much. definitely call around and get prices for all the same products for mounting and balancing out the door, so you can compare and potentially negotiate with some of the places.

You can get an idea of pricing online, but doesn't always compare correctly for your area.

Also, in general, mud tires and ATs do not get the best of wear. IMO.

Sounds to me like you need to rethink your setup. For that price, you can get a full OME setup, or 5100's with OME/Toytec coils. It's way better than the FJ coils. FJ coils are great due to price, but if you're planning on paying that much then you're overpaying big time. That's probably what it'd cost to buy them new, not worth that.

You can get 5100's for under $400, should be able to find a used set of FJ coils for $150 max (that's the most I'd pay for them), install shouldn't run quite as much as you're estimating, so you should be better off than you think.

As for tires, consider buying used if funds are that limited. I think new tires are very doable given my above comments. Perhaps look at non name brand tires. One that comes to mind is the Kelly Safari TSR. It's very similar to the Duratrac, even made by Goodyear I believe, but much cheaper. Only thing is that if you go to a 33, you can't carry a full size spare which can cause issues on the road.

I was curious about the math as well? You sure would save some if you did it yourself. Not as hard as ya think, rear coil is a snap.

I don't skimp on tires - kind of like a motorcycle helmet. As for tire wear I have 6 years on my Goodyear AT-S's (see pix). I'll replace em next with GY Duratracs in a little bit bigger size ha.

Ok, much better. The install is pretty easy, IF you have to tools/space to work. Doesn't take much. Don't know what skills you have or what you have access to, but Colemanfu brought up a good point. With common sense and the right tools, you can do it yourself. I did mine, and I have pretty much no mechanical knowledge. I know around here, you can get the swap done for $250-$300 including alignment.

Yep, quite a few. Check out my original lift thread (link in build thread, link to that's in my sig). I link to several I found helpful. When I did my OME's, I used a post by Galactic_04. Search for his username and look at his lift install. Very simple instructions, but extremely helpful.

Do you have air tools (impact)? I consider this mandatory for assembling the fronts. If not, you should be able to have a shop assemble the fronts for your, should be very cheap ($20-$30 max I'd guess). Once that's done, it's a piece of cake. You'll need various metric sockets/wrenches (ratcheting wrenches a plus). Here's the Toytec install guide for their ultimate kit, your's will be pretty much the same.

I went with definity dakota mt's, 285/75r16=33's. I paid $680 installed and out the door at pep boys, and got $30 in pep boys bucks. I have 6k on em and just rotated them, they seem to be wearing well. search my posts for pics......i also did the springs and DS kit myself.

If I remember correctly you do have xreas. You'll have to ditch that to install the shocks/coils. If you want to keep it, then the spacer lift is probably a better option.

275/65/18 would work well, or you can do 275/70/18, but that'll take a bit of work to get to fit. That's a 32" vs a 33" tire, both 11" wide. You looking for an AT tire? Mild or very aggressive?
