So the 4runner fails headlight tests with a "poor" rating

Some people just don't get it.

So it's not necessarily a lumens issue, it's just how you use it? I've heard that one before.

*Ok, I see there are results for 4R vs Rav4; interesting ratings, would like to see all of that tabled; 4R gets a "some glare" rating as well

I have never had any problem seeing with any standard headlight I have had on any vehicle. Some people think "more it better" or "it looks cool." At the sake of not blinding other drivers and saving some money, believe me, everyone has already seen those lights, and they are not that cool.

The stock projectors have a good cutoff, you won't be blinding anyone with HIDs unless your headlight aim is bad

I have LEDs in my 2001, and they completely changed my lighting situation for around $30. They are super bright and easy to install. I'm sure there are LED options for every model year 4runner.
 
It was a foggy night a few nights ago. Gave me chance to see how projectors are. Really is nice. I see older model trucks and jeeps around here with the bright blue HIDs in reflective housings some of you are probably thinking of. Those are spread everywhere and blind me all the time. This is my first vehicle with projectors and they're much more controlled.

Huh, surprising to me! I guess the rest of you are spoiled by other vehicles, but I raved about the lights in my 4R when I got it, and still do! My wife as an 11' Escape that has lights that are no where near as good as the 4R, but still not horrible by any means. I know lights have changed since my '10, but I get enough people flashing me their highs thinking mine are on because they are so bright. I am very happy with my lights and have no desire to change them.

If you get alot of people flashing you, do you think they could use some adjusting.

I hear ya, My wife's 2010 escape's head lights blow, even with HID's. Might have to go aftermarket.

No reason you should be getting flashed if your suspension is stock and your headlights are set correctly. I don't get flashed with my lift and HID's.

They line up perfect with the inspection grid so I'm fine as far as I'm concerned. Also, with the 'soft' suspension the 4R has anything in the back can cause them to sit high too. I often run around with 50+ lbs in the far back, you would be surprised the difference that makes.
 
[MENTION=47784]westwind77[/MENTION] the stock suspension on the SR5 is way too soft and can be dangerous when stopping at a high rate of speed. Driving in to work I would be cruising comfortably with traffic between 70 -80 mph and then out of no where some one would slam on their brakes and cause every one to follow suit. The dreaded nose dive would ensue and the rear end would rise... reducing traction on drive wheels and causing the ass to fish tail.

After swapping the suspension, I no longer had to carry an extra set of shorts with me on my daily commute.

I just thought you might be a little concerned with maybe someone running off the road, or something from not being able to see.

If you regularly have that much weight in the back, then you need to properly aim them with the weight in the back.
 
Put some Philips Extreme Vision bulbs in the high and low beam sockets and be done. I am very picky about night lighting and these throw plenty of light and are made for projector housings. I'm very satisfied after the change from oem bulbs. And zero problems with oncoming vehicles.
