that is a hideous hitch. My neighbor had a tundra n got rid of it for a lil volkswagon which he hates now! He said he was at the dealer, n he informed him to hold off for a year because supposedly next year Toyota is releasing a diesel engine for the Tundra especially since they can't compete w/ the current MPG that Ford, GMC, and Dodge have. Fingers crossed maybe it trickles down to the 4runner n tacoma!

The trailer hitch would need quick refinement or the Hilux, regardless of its other attributes, may be on the dealer lots for some time.

Toyota I believe has a high stake in Hino, the #1 ranked diesel maker in the world according to JD Power so one could assume that a Hino diesel ends up in the market here. But the Tundra is assembled in Texas so maybe Cummins.

Cummins has announced that they have designed a V diesel 5.0L motor to put in the Nissan Titan in 2015 or 2016.

There are rumors that the next gen Hiluxes and Tacomas will share the same platform again. It would make sense, as Toyota wouldn't have to produce 2 different very similar vehicles.

It would be nice to see the tacoma have a fully boxed frame, instead of that C-Channel Frame nonsense.

They are not coming from the factory with a Dana 60. The ones with 60's in them are being upfitted by a 3rd party company for HD use and ECGS is supplying the 60's for that company.

From the factory, they will have a Toyota axle.

Those HiLux pickups are very nice. I still don't understand why Toyota just doesn't import them here instead of having a "separate" Tacoma. I THINK they have same chassis, but not sure on that one.

Still won't get us any closer to the 3L diesel from the Taco or the 4.5 from the LC. I would certainly take a Hilux over a Tacoma (I have an 07) for similar price, but without the engine options, its not that much of an upgrade.

The overseas model Ford Rangers pictured in the article are pretty cool. It would be nice to have midsize pickup options other than Tacoma and Frontier.

I agree in that we won't get any closer to them. 2021 is 8 years away, and with gas (historically) going up, I think there's a good chance small trucks will go diesel. But, who knows......It will be interesting though..............

Some people (I think mostly the mechanically inclined) ship from Japan the front good section of a totaled truck and swap out the engine. I think there is a company in TX that will do it ALL for you...in exchange for ~$10k.
