So this is what the "stealer" did....

So last Friday I go to Jones Junction Toyota in Bel Air, MD to purchase an 06 V8 Shadow Mica Sport. They say they don't have it, but will get it for me via a DX. I bring them the offers I had gotten from two other dealers and they beat one of the two and were about $300 over the Carmax price. I am still OK with this becuase they say they can get me the vehicle. They say they will get me the vehicle Monday. Great, here is my deposit. So I get a call from them later that night saying the couldn't secure the vehicle but would try again Monday. So Monday goes by and Tuesday I get a phone call from the salesman and he says, "We have secured the vehicle, but it isn't at the dealer yet." Still, no problem. I am aware that there aren't any of these specific cars in the area. I tell him I would like to have the vehicle by Friday. "Won't be a problem." he says. So goes by Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and I haven't heard from him. So a few minutes ago I rode up the stealership and spoke to the salesman and his manager. He says in front on the manager, "I just called you yesterday to let you know about the vehicle." Yesterday? Umm, no. You called me Tuesday. Here is your number in my cell phone. Well, they schmooze and try to get me to wait for the truck. I tell them I have waited long enough and I didn't feel they were being truthful, so I want my deposit back. I tell them that I will just go to another dealer and buy an 06 V8 limited they have on their lot, to avoid any unnecessary wait. So they said, "Well, what if we could save you a couple bucks on an 06 limited. I tell them "You didn't save me a couple bucks on the one I have been waiting for. So no." And I walk... I am so mad I could scream.

I feel your pain. It can be so aggravating dealing with sales people sometimes (no offense to sales people here ;): )

Your first drive (when you get it) will be worth all the waiting and frustration.

Good luck

I have an 04 Sport, owned an 02 Sport, a 97 Limited and an 87 SR5. I am about as brand loyal as they come. I was so looking forward to getting that truck. But there are other dealers out there who can at very least, give me the same deal if not better. They could have saved the deal with a phone call within the past three days, or at least given me some incentive to wait, but they didn't.

If the Sales Group is screwing you...can you imagine what the service dept would do ? What a shame..they have a greaat product and screw it up with bad dealerships. I had to wait for my 05 about a week, came from another dealer 50 mi away,no trouble but service was not good . I don't go to selling dealer any longer.
Hope you have better luck with the Limited.

Their service department is actually excellent. I have been taking my 04 there for about a year and a half. The hunt for my '06 goes on!! :bash:

Why would you buy a new vehicle from a dealer you don't intend to service it at?

Because they offered the best deal on what I wanted. And I won't get the vehicle serviced there since the dealership where I purchased the 4Runner is over 50 miles away (and there are 2 dealerships much closer... one is less than 4 miles away).

Just because you buy a vehicle at a particular dealership doesn't mean you have to get it serviced there.

And no dealership service department should have a problem servicing ANY Toyota vehicle, regardless of where it was purchased.

i would buy a car 50 miles away for a good deal or car i want.

i would not go to a dealership 50 miles away to change oil every 3000 miles.

I tried going to Jones Junction for my 2005 4Runner. Wow, they were incredible. They tried to pull every trick in the book.

The salesman to this day sends me mail regarding things such as sales and servicing of my vehicle at Jones. He was creepy and did not want to hear what I had to say.

After that, I used the internet to email dealerships within a 50 mile radius of me.

I went through the internet service managers at:
Jones Toyota
Jerry's Toyota
Koons Toyota (Westminster)
R&H
Bill Kidd's

Jones and Jerry's lost my bussiness because they "bad-mouthed" each other's dealerships while being very unprofessional. On top of that, the Jones Internet Service Manager kept asking for my credit card number to get a deposit down on a vehicle I was looking for.

The great part about internet service managers is that if you know what specific car you want, you can stay at home and negotiate through email or the phone. Dealerships literally will fight for your bussiness. In addition, most dealerships claim "we have the lowest price" guarantee stuff.

Best time to shop around though is at the end of month, they want to make their quotas, or even wait until December. Nobody is buying cars, they're all buying Christmas gifts.

I agree. I bought some parts from them and I mentioned I was Active Duty Military. I had already payed and everything and the cashier lady insisted on ringing me up again with a 10% Military Discount. The Service Manager told me that Active Duty Military gets 10% off everthing in the parts/service department.

I did not buy a vehicle from them, but the service dept seemed knowledgable and professional.

No they won't have a problem at all.....but when they know that you purchased from a dealership farther away than them, they will be more reluctant to do favors for you than for the customers that purchased at their dealership.....whether it's squeezing in an oil change when it's busy, or just providing a service car, they DO look at who bought where, even if they shouldn't.....any other business works the same way.

355 Toyota

RL4673,

Have you tried 355 Toyota in Rockville, MD? I got my 05 SR5 and was very pleased with my salesman, John Stephenson (I think that's his name). He was very honest with less BS and he gave me everything I wanted. He's an older man so he's a bit slow so bear with him. But he told me about their advertisement in the newspaper that I didn't know of: $27,700 w/ 0% financing for the V8's and told me not to tell his manager that he told me about it or he'll get in trouble. Maybe that's all sales people, but I was very satisfied otherwise.

I had a similarly bad experience at Carlson Toyota in Minneapolis-St Paul area. I had received a good price from a dealer quite a distance away, and emailed Carlson, a close dealer, to see if they wanted to match it--told them to call me right away if they could. They immediately called to say that they had the exact same car and would match the offer. I asked the young internet sales person to "check with his manager" to make sure, so we didn't have to go through that BS. He put me on hold, and came back a few minutes later to say the manager had OKed the deal. So we got in the car and drove out there ten minutes later. First he made us sit at his desk filling out ridiculous forms (where are you going to park this vehicle--a garage, the street, some other place?) for about twenty minutes. Clearly he was trying to stall us to get us "invested" in time so that we didn't leave. So I told him I wanted to cut the silly forms out and get the car. He wandered away for about 15 minutes, then came back to say that the "dealership" was having trouble running the numbers I had given them. I asked him what the heck that meant, "running the numbers"--just sell me the car for what you said you would. I told him he had five minutes to get the car for me or I was out of there. He left again and I got up and walked to the door, since I meant every word I said. About this time I saw him talking with an older guy behind the desk across the room who signaled me to come over. I walked over and the older guy says, "We don't believe you got this offer from any one else." I just about fell over. The guy called me a liar publicly! I walked out, and the next morning we picked up the car in a wonderfully simple and straightforward deal for exactly the price to the penny from a dealership in the south metro.
An addendum: We later took the 4R out to the same Carlson Toyota for some warranty service...and would you believe we had an even worse experience with their service department? Too long to go into, but it was actually scary. These guys at Carlson are, from front office to sales to service, just snakes! My lesson from this: if the sales staff is sneaky and dishonest...it comes from the ownership, and the whole place is going to operate in the same way!

Your wrong, to state that a dealership's service department wouldn't give you good service, because you didn't purchase your vechicle there. Why would they discourage ANY business? Dealerships I've worked at, were just the opposite, and kissed the a$$es of the people who didn't purchase there, to keep all service business!

There is a good chance they might not do their best to "squeeze you in" during a very busy day if you bought a car somewhere else. However, I would think that most stealerships would do their best to accommodate you during normal times - since you are a paying customer (for your service) and you are a potential customer for your next vehicle purchase. On top of that, they'll want your trade-in when you eventually do take the plunge to buy a new car or truck.

I'm not "wrong," just saying it's a situation that can (and does) happen.

I'm not talking about like moving somewhere and started servicing at another dealership......I'm talking about going out of town to buy a vehicle from a competing dealership to (maybe) save a few bucks, yet then expecting your local dealer to give you the same service they give customers that bought there......good luck with that.

I'm getting excellent service at a local dealer that lost the original sale. This dealer has no apparent connection between the service and sales departments. I don't even know if the internet sales guy that lost the deal even works there anymore. I'm sure the service guys/girls also don't know. They could care less because they've never asked why my ride has another dealer's plate frame instead of their's. As long as they treat me right they will get my money.

I had oil change for my 4Runner at the dealership I didn't buy vehicle from. They had evaluation card for me at cashier. They sent another service survey through mail several weeks after.

I think the quality of service can be case by case, dealership by dealership

When my sister bought her Accord, the salesman told us that the dealer didn't really care where you bought the car, as long as you serviced it there. Apparently that dealer made more money on servicing cars than selling them. Take that with a grain of salt, it did come from a salesman; but he was pretty upfront and honest with us and the sale went great.

Definetly......I'm just always touchy on these matters because I like spending my money in my hometown, particularily on big ticket items......what goes around comes around. I would never buy a vehicle out of town to save a few hundred bucks.....but that's me.

I imagine many of the big city/big dealership buyers would have a totally different view.
