re like this.. Tell them that it's not nessisary for a Toyota headunt.. It's most likely not a scam andhow could they do any harm with you vin? Your vins displayed all the time anyways..

i believe spencer is correct. german vehicles are notorious for needing codes. not 4runner however.

Most Hondas require a code also, and if that were the case then the buyer would need the VIN#. This isn't the case with the Toyota head units however so like everyone above said, just let her know she won't need it.

Did she already pay for the item? What is her feedback rating and how many transactions does she have?

If it is a scam you need to report it to Ebay.

I sell a lot on Ebay in the last 10 years and run into some pretty shady dealings and always report them.

But not everything is what it looks like.
I sold a 8000 lb Warn winch last month to a guy in Russia. When he paid for it through PayPal, PayPal sent me an email saying that his payment was on hold because of his location and his address did not match PayPal's.
I waited four days then got a email from PayPal saying that I could ship it but to get a delivery confirmation so I could be covered by PayPal's policy.

The Buyer has a valid reason for "needing" it, Many imports started doing this when stealing headunits was the "cool" thing to do.
Although It doesn't really help any because if the theif knows what they are doing they will write down the VIN while they are stealing it.

As for the german cars, Don't even get me started...

I think it's funny how my 98 Limited that probably cost over $30k when new doesn't have a code on the factory cd player while my 99 Civic EX, which probably didn't cost $15k when new did have one.
