So very lost on tire size vs lift

Hey guys so I need to write this one out since I think I am lost in my research and gut feel so please bear with me.

I just picked up a 2001 T4R and love the hell out of it. Good/Bad news is I need new tires. I like the fact that I get to pick what I put on but my research is being pushed up faster than I wanted.

My main use for this truck is freeway, going to tahoe in the winter, and very light offroad. Probably in that order for % of use. Now what I am confused about is I think I want a 265/75/16 tire (Which tire is a whole other can of worms) Now supposibly I can fit this stock, SS recomends this with the 7.2 kit and this works with the 99 tall springs. Now I assume that with the ss it will be more of a benefit offroad since I have more room to stuff but for handling and on-road performance is the tundra/890 combo better than what I have or 99 talls? My fun side says it would be great to lift and have the bad-a$$ look but is it necessary? Practical side says stick with stock or 99 tall and add addco to be smart since I use it so much on-road. Will 99 tall sag back to my height eventually? Last question I swear is if I did do 99 tall how is ss price at $620?

Sorry for so many questions..my fun side is saying one thing and practicality says another. Hopefully soon enough I'll be less of a newb

265/75 tire is equivalent to a 31x10.50...which you can fit stock...heres a pic of my 01 with 31's on stock suspension

You are dealing with the age old issue - fun side vs. practical side - if you figure out how to make the two meet in the middle successfully, let me know for my sake. I have OME 891 coils in the rear which gives a 2.5 - 3" lift, and Daystar spacers on the front 2.5 lift. I have Procomp 265/75R16 mud terrain tires. It does quite well off road and is still comfortable to drive highway - this is also my family vehicle for when we all go somewhere together.

check out my thread from a couple weeks ago. I ended up getting 265/75/16 Nitto Terra grapplers and LOVE THEM. went with the OME new coils and shocks and also love them. the truck is level and drives better than ever.

I guess what I am asking is why lift if I can fit it stock and that's the size people use if they are not going to trim fenders.

the stability i have experienced with the small OME lift has been HUGE. the truck now also sits level as opposed to raked forward.

My opinion is that you should stay as stock as possible for now. You can fit 265/75's, but realize that your MPG will drop by 2 mpg. Being onroad so much, the taller tires wil not benefit you. (By the way, 265/75's are 32's, Not 31's as previously stated.)

When you're ready to offroad, then at that time, get a proper lift like the SS or OME kits and get some decent offroad tires then.
