Adding to the discussion on CB.....
Comparing apples to apples, (unmodified) CB runs at the legal RF limit (FCC) of 4 watts while FRS runs at 0.5 watts and GMRS at 1-5 watts.
As I understand (please correct me if I am wrong) anything above 4 watts is illegal.
I believe David does a lot of "away from the truck" expeditions and hence why the FRS/GMRS is very suitable for his application.
For the offroad experience I have had (offroad 4x4 trail driving only) with 3 different forum groups, the most common use seems to be CB - in fact except for my first 4x4 trip here in the USA, I haven't seen anyone use FRS/GMRS. All trucks I have run with are equipped with CB and use them exclusively.
So back to the original question, YES, CB is definitely still being used.
