So what the heck have I got here? Stereo & alarm questions ...

I'm the new owner of a 3rd gen T4R, and it has more stereo goodness than I've ever put into a cars, some of which I don't need and some of which I have yet to figure out how it works.

There's a Farenheit TID-735 touch-screen unit in the dash; luckily I've got the book and the remote. There's also a Powerbass 1400w (700ASA?) amp under the seat and a monster kicker in the rear ... apparently with its own battery (on top of the fuseable link off the primary). Even the batteries are some sort audio specialty. I really don't think I need this, especially as it really cuts into the cargo area and the 90lb Great Pyr who wants to ride back there isn't a fan either. In regards to the power amp ... there is a red LED read-out, on a cylindrical tube which is sometimes on, sometimes not (after I shut the truck off) What the heck is this?

Either way, combined, it's all the kind of stuff that just screams "break in and steal me!" although it is nice to have a monster stereo in the car. LOL

I've also got a Sidewinder 2-button remote, which could be a series 5000, 6000 or 7000 ... but I'm not sure where the brain is. There is a small, black square unit which has been screwed into the underside of the dash, under the steering column. There appears to be some sort of jack on the side, but for what I don't know. I don't seem to get any reaction from pressing either button on the remote. Can this thing tie into the stereo at all?

There is also a bell-shaped unit bolted to the firewall in the engine bay, right in front of the driver. This might have something to do with the foglights, but I don't know.

Safe to assume pictures would help, hm?

But does any of this stuff sound familiar to any of you?

Alright where to start... the cylindrical tube is a capacitor. Basically when you have your system turned up, Everytime the bass hits it pulls a lot of power from your battery which causes your lights to dim and could eventually kill your battery. The capacitor stores power and releases it when your car needs it. Keeping your lights from dimming. This should always be on because its always going to be holding power. The only time it should not have a reading is if the car hasn't been turned on in awhile. If you take the sub out you can take the cap out. But if you keep it then keep the cap too. As for the side winder I assume that's an alarm? If so the black box could be how you turn off the alarm if you lose the remote. On my viper if I didn't have the remote id have to open the door with the key. Put key in ignition and press button to turn alarm off. As for the bell shaped unit I'd definetly need pics. Hope this helps.

Ok, that makes sense now - cool & thanks for the explanation! I figured it had something to do with power management, because it usually reads somewhere in the "12.##" range. I haven't watched it with the radio on. I've never had a kicker (or a 1400w stereo for that matter) before, so I'm kind of averse to pulling it out ... especially after finding the second battery back there.

The Sidewinder - yeah, sorry, it's an alarm. I'm just a little anxious to go tinkering with it in the event I set it off and can't stop it. I'll get some pics tonight.
