So, you added footwell lights...

Hey guys... I added footwell lighting a couple years ago and love them! It's actually one of my favorite mods. However, I recently upgraded to LEDs all around, so now it looks odd having my footwell light (driver's only is not LED now) with the ugly incandescant glow.

What I'm hoping is that the rest of you who have also done this mod, whether or not you added LEDs or not, can share some pics of how you did it to give the rest of us (me) ideas

I haven't yet but my friends added LED strips under each knee board front and under rear seats in the back on his truck. He triggered them to the doors. Very cool mod.

When I do the footwell, I'm going to follow JA's guide, as posted above.

I also cut LED strips and placed them under each running board, below the door. I tapped into the circuit for the running board lights, so they turn off/on when the running board lights are on/off and also fade, which looks pretty cool. They're also very effective, as the purpose is to illuminate the ground below the door so you don't step in mud/puddle, etc. when getting into/out of the truck.

Thanks for the link to JA's web page. I've seen that before, but forgot how well he documents his how-tos. :hail:

I actually installed a similar LED strip light on my copilots side, but it's a bit further underneath (All the way forward). I've decided just to use the same light housings that I currently have, and install the appropriate LED to replace the incandescant lamps.

I too wired these into the same circuit which has my running boards, and also my GX470 overhead dome lights operate on the same circuit as well. So after closing a door, my footwell lights are on running board lights are on, and my front dome/map lights are on and dim out at the same time.

I've been wanting to install puddle lights as well, but don't want to install under the running boards due to road debris being a problem. I just know the lights wouldn't last long and I'd wind up with just some wires hanging there because I ran over something and it took the light out.

I have also been wanting to install lights under the front seats for the back seat floor area, however, the seat back comes down too far I believe for it to do any good for any light to illuminate the area. I think it's only that way with the Limited seats and the solid seat-back pockets.

I did the mod and enjoy it a lot! It was a lot of work but imo very worth the time spent. I cant believe they didn't come with any foot well lighting from the factory, when I turn it off it's just too dark for me. I followed JA's write up exactly and had no problems. I used the LEDs from the site he referenced and went with the 5000k (best color imo). I spend about 100 bucks overall and would highly recommend to everyone who isn't afraid to take some panels out. Here are a few pics:

In his write up he uses two switches and sais he has two switches already on his dash but my 2003 only has one switch. Has anyone else come across this and figured out a way around it or will I not be able to use JA's write up.

Only 1 switch is needed for the footwell mod.

The other switch was for the maplight mod, but I am now using that position for the drl mod.

Can I still use the 1" wide aluminum or should I get one a little wider for the pucks since the square 9 LEDs are discontinued?

My replacement choice (STRIP_RL_INT_12-C) would be 0.33" wider than the 9led boards I am running. They are 1.5" total, so you would have overhang of 1/4" on each side of the alum which is not worrisome but if you can get wide strips then go with that.
