SoCal 4Runner Shop Thread

Truck Shop SD slider pics

Had a request for pics on a different thread. Figure this is more of an appropriate thread to post. Truck Shop built sliders, they are awesome. I sent them some links to what I wanted, talked it over and they built and welded them on in a day... well actually it took two days but I had them do other work as well.

Here you go

Those look nice man! Do you know if they'll do bolt on too? If not no biggie, I can find out.

Body Shop

Anyone know of a quality body shop in the IE or LA area? I'm looking to do a Limited to TRD front end conversion. I'd provide all the parts. Thanks in advance!

So I want 5 pages in and didn't see a shop recommendation in Central LA.

I need to take my 99 in for an oil change, diff flush, transfer case and trans flush, brakes, possibly a TSB regarding the rear window going down on it's own after a rain, and soon a lift.

I also am looking for a place to pull some small dings and wrap.

Thank you all for the community and response!

TG's Performance

Not a Toyota or 4Runner specific reference but I has done a lot of work with Tony for years - he has easily done machine work for around 50 engines for me in some capacity - simple head rebuilds to full on race engines.

Most of his clients (myself included) are into classic muscle cars - so we are a picky bunch and when we find someone who is 1) honest and 2) capable we stick with them.

They get great reviews. The guy Sam is really cool and straightforward. Took my truck today to get valve cover replacement and they noticed a rattle from the exhaust and ended up reattaching the heat shield which had come loose and was touching the exhaust causing the rattling noise.

Ruben is very knowledgeable. He does lots of lifts and suspension upgrades here. He has a really cool sand rail of his own in his shop so you know he is into wheeling and trucks. He has done work on my other vehicle Lexus Gs400 and has been great every time.

Looking for a shop for to get 4lo fixed. Preferably in the OC area. Any suggestions is appreciated!

Check out first post.... Great shop, very dedicated and experienced shop owner, in Toyotas. Honest but expensive. Dealer type pricing but you get a detailed and well done job the fist time. Give them a call for a quote

The owner of this shop, John, is a Toyota guru with 30 years experience. 4Runners are a daily presence at this shop, plus he owns/has owned several. John is a master of the art, an honest mechanic who explains his work in great detail and solely uses only OEM or better quality parts. In addition, he makes sure every nut, bolt, and clip is removed and reinstalled carefully. The prices are fair and the parts he uses are top notch. Rest assured, if John performs a job, he does it right.

His shop contains a vast variety of 4Runner parts and custom tools specifically tailored to Toyota trucks and 4Runners. I wouldn't doubt that he could build a 22RE or 5VZ with his eyes closed.

He can diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues, perform clutch jobs, engine work of any kind, manual transmission rebuilds, transfer cases, suspension, lockers and gears for your diffs, axle seals, air conditioning, interior, you name it.

His wife, Wendy, sets the appointments, so be sure to tell her that James from the 4Runner forum told you to call. They'll treat you right.

Looking for some pointers on the best 4runner mechanics (by specialty) in the Los Angeles area. I'll start.

Silverlake Automotive (general maintenance)
Speedo Tech Whittier (speedo work)

Specifically, I am looking for someone to help with some body work and electronics work.

Can anyone recommend a muffler shop in or around the south bay (torrance/gardena) will venture out if needed.

I installed the Borla S Type but I think I need a resonator welded on.

Is it that loud? Thought the S was suppose to be the quieter one of the Borla's.

it's not that loud like a flowmaster. But I can hear it in the rear cargo. I want to try to tone that down.
also its paired up with the URD y-pipe so maybe thats why it might be a bit louder?
