There is no record of any expenditure on my truck nor shall there ever be... if there was I may find myself single again very quickly.... HAHAHA:trophy:
 
Rear bumper is 99% done now!! I added a tray on the swing out to hold a jerry can holder, cooler mount, or this 20MM ammo can pictured below. Really digging the ammo can; the lid removes completely and a Scepter / Jerry can fits in there with room to spare, or with the lid on, it holds all of my ARB recovery gear, tools, and Hi-Lift winch kit.

Bumper is coming apart this week and headed to the powder coater, then the quarter panels are getting blasted in Line X!!!

 
Hi SocalTrail... I can see you've been keeping busy, but have you had a chance to take a look at the 3D rendering I emailed you for the awning/hi-lift bracket?

Feel free to run them through the SoCalSkunkWorks if you get bored! :madgrin:

I can tweak them to make all the measurement accurate if you want/need that. As I told you in the email, this was just a quick drawing.

As many of you have also experienced, my rear hatch gas struts blew out a month or so ago. I spent the last few weeks searching for a replacement solution that would offer more lift to accommodation the Gobi Ladder and be as close of a direct "snap on" replacement as possible.

Well.... I FOUND IT!!!!!

After ordering 3 different pairs of struts with no luck, I came upon LiftSupportsDepot.com One of the very helpful employees invited me to stop by so we could try out a few different struts and see which one worked.

Those with the Gobi Ladder, here is what you want:

When you order, you must put in the comments section the following: "Convert to 10mm straight ends"

Other than that, they give the hatch the perfect amount of lift, they are an easy upgrade or replacement of yours are already blown, and best of all, thy are DIRT CHEAP!!!! How does $17 / each sound!

Anywho. Thought I would share, I am happy to have my hatch back up and functional again, I got tired of resting it on my head as I grab my crap out of the back. :boxer:

AWESOME! I just noticed today that my stock hatch with a hefty Ham Radio Antenna is starting to balk at opening. Will purchase soon!
 
Continuing the get the finishing details knocked out on the bumper. I'm spending a ton of time making the trim pieces to interface the OEM plastic with the bumper. So far, I am absolutely happy with everything. The way I am using the rubber allows the flex between the bumper and plastic and covers everything up nicely. I only have a little bit more to do. The latch to open the swing out is now hidden and I added a pull pin safety catch (you will see it stuck in there with the green "dummy chord" that gets attached to the truck side).













Also! I just added the ARB Awning 2000 using Fourtreks mounts. Absolutely slick!!!! Had to do a little machining on the rear mount to clear my rack mounted utility box but other than that, it fits perfect! No wind noise, nada! Very low profile and tucked into the side of the truck.

I just installed them and they are doing great. I think they're a bit stronger than factory, ie harder to pull down the hatch, but quite acceptable. BTW, the comment "Convert to 10mm straight ends" I don't believe is needed now, just reference your specific vehicle.

HIGHLY Recommended!!! Mine are over a year old and going strong! :biggrin2:

Sooooo I'm back!

Been away for the last month, vacation, a little work, life, etc. etc.


I got back Sunday, so Monday on my lunch break, I went down to the powder coaters and grabbed my freshly coated rear tire carrier / swing out, some small parts for the rear bumper and also..... my sweeeeeet powder coated 20MM ammo can!!! I took it all apart and they coated it to match the bumper. The coating I went with is almost identical to what Gobi uses - it is a satin black with a light texture, very durable.

I have very little welding and fitup to finish in the bottom portion of the bumper, then that will be off to be coated.

Nearing the end of a long project!
