Spoke to Brad @ Icon today about this. The eyelets are WAAAAY stronger, so that is the direction I am going! They have to replace the entire top cap, then I have to get my fab skills on and figure out a mount for the spherical bearing eye mount. I actually already have it all designed, easy easy stuff. They sell those stem to eye conversions like I posted above, but I am actually going to weld a double shear mount into the existing shock mount. Should be beeeeeeeefy. :madgrin:

This might be a great opportunity to relocate the upper shock mount too! Maybe for a little more articulation? Or progressive dampening with some angle change?

The shocks are headed to Icon, arriving there tomorrow all set for the conversion and re-valve / re-build. Pretty stoked. I have the brackets all figured out, I will definitely play with the shock location some and see if I can squeeze a bit more suspension travel out of the setup by playing with the fore/aft angle. Should be fun and on the plus side, I never have to worry about one of those stems breaking again!
 
Hey SoCal, I'm not sure if you saw my post a few back but I'd be curious to hear your opinion on the king shocks and KDSS.

Unfortunately I had no OEM 921 bulbs to compare to, but these V-LED 8 Watt Bulbs are "supposed" to be the jammie jam… The look bright as hell in the housing, but their output pales in comparison even to the OEM 921 from what I recall.

Here is the V-LED bulb - 5K WHITE 19 LED 8W HIGH POWER BULBS 917 918 920 921 922 923 579 | 1 PAIR B/O - 921 LED - Bulb #

Overall, a very easy mod with a little patience. I bought 3 of the 894 bulbs and was glad I did as I destroyed one very easily when I was figuring out how to secure it into the 921 holder.

The difference in light output is, well, amazing. It is how the reverse lights should be!

Here are some specs I found on the bulbs from the Taco site:

Watts - Lumens - Life Expectancy - Bulb

38-------942-----200 hours--------893, 894, 896

The 894 bulbs put out about 3x the light as the OEM 921… it shows!!!

Absolutely Awesome!!!! Bang for the buck it is a killer little mod, I am surprised not more people do this. It doubled the output of my reverse lights. I have had them in for quite a while and everything is perfect.
 
Update on the broken rear Icon Bypass shock...

Turns out is is NOT possible to convert the top cap to an eye. It would require a whole new shock body, a few hundred dollars, and some other changes so I opted not to go that route for now, especially since I plan on caging and hooping the rear in a couple years.

Icon redesigned the studs to a different forged design and word on the street is that this new design has been bulletproof thus far. I will test that theory :hatsoff:

Again, hats off to all the guys at Icon. A little shout out to Brad, Adrian, and Todd. Every time I have dealings with them, it reminds me why I run their products. Their customer service is absolutely top notch. They return calls, are very helpful, and have the best product in the industry ( In my little old opinion ).

I shipped my shocks in on Thursday ( they rebuild shocks every Tuesday ), they covered the stud breakage under warranty and upgraded both shocks to the new design and re-valved my shocks to my new OME springs for a very reasonable price. They were back in my possession by Thursday morning. Cannot ask for more than that.

Good to hear icon took care of you and nice to see that they upgraded from a weak design. I actually used your swing out design for when I had mine made. Love the runner and almost got a 5th gen. Maybe in the future haha

2013 Yamaha WR250R Dual sport - Haven't ridden bikes since high school and wanted something to get back into those areas I have discovered recently where the truck will not go. This thing gets 70MPG and will go anywhere! Street legal too!

Icon Rear Air Bump Stops ~~~~`


These guys really put the finishing touch on the already great rear suspension. Install was cake, and the quality was, well.... typical Icon... very, very nice stuff!

Just put em on late last night so I havn't had a chance to run em in the dirt yet, possibly tomorrow.

Pics on the final install up later.

Congrats, I have an older model of this and really like it.

My 4Runner is stock, but I have done some mods to the WR.

If you are not tall, you can get a yamalink and shorten it. You can also get a shorter seat (or both ;-)

And, if you end up riding hills/trails, you might want to change the gearing as I found that it would go downhill too fast for me when I was learning.

It was a 13' that fell out of a previous sale, I got it for $5,299 out the door with a helmet, goggles and gloves. Feel like it was a pretty damn good deal!

I already tackled the stock lowering option but I'm 6' without shoes on so with my boots I can pretty much flat foot the bike no prob. Took it on some pretty technical ( for me ) single track for me and had a ton of fun. I have 200 miles on it now so I was gonna do the first oil change.

There are sooooo many mods for those things... not good for my wallet :dance:
