Mini Review of the Icon Air Bump Stops for the Rear~~~

The install has been outlined elsewhere on this forum and is very, very straightforward and simple, took a total of 45 minutes to source the appropriate tools, lift the rear of the truck with the good old Toyota forklift, remove the nuts on the top of the rear shocks, pull the coils, install the air bumps, and put it all back together..... one big sentence there!
I drove around town with the bump stops in for about a week and a half and to be honest, never really knew they were there except one time right after the install that I ran over some dips really hard and could hear the "click" they make when they contact the lower portion of the coil perch.
The true test was the desert trip I took this last Saturday. It was a true "So Cal style" 4x4 trip. Everything from sand dunes, high speed desert wash driving, nasty rock crawling, night driving through whooped out roads, etc. It was a great time to put this new addition to the truck through its paces.
The initial portion of the trip consisted of some high speed driving down a pole like road which was uneven, had some small whoops, big whoops, and soft sandy sections. I rad the compression setting of the rear bypass shocks set almost all the way open and immediately heard the clank of the bump stops hitting. When I say clank, it is not an annoying clank, but more of a reassuring "clank" of the bump saying, "hey, I'm doing my job down here!!!". I pulled off and cranked the compression adjusters down to where they need to be and drove on. The one thing I noticed is when I hit a terrain feature really, really hard, like the stuff you drive up fast on and say to yourself.... self, this is gonna hurt.... the pain never comes! The rear end with all the weight I have back there is very controlled and predictable. It absorbs some incredibly tough stuff and really put the finishing touch on my rear suspension.
On the technical rock crawling sections the nice thing is the bump stops are virtually nonexistent. They don't limit the up travel or articulation and I still was able to get the same flex out of the rear that I always had - see the pics directly above.
My conclusion - the Icon rear bumps are a GREAT addition to a truck that will be driven over high speed desert or similar terrain where you encounter sudden large bumps, whoops, drop offs, etc. They do a great job of taking the edge off that rear suspension compression hit and add a very noticeable progressive softening of the rear. For those of you who go slower or crawl on rocks, I would say that you money is better spent elsewhere unless you want them for the bling factor. For street use, I only notice them when I purposely drive over speed humps and such at a ridiculous speed to test out my suspension. Otherwise, normal street driving you will never know there are there in most cases.

Not a whole lot new... I need a switch for my aux. fuel transfer pump, my two alley lights, my GPS / Nav bypass switch, a "main" power switch for my aux. power outlets and some other stuff. I should have a few extra slots in there, you know.... room to grow
Using a VDO 301-105 Vision Gauge, and an Auto Meter 3262 Sending unit. Clean little gauge, works well enough!
