Negative. I never do any solo wheeling and carry recovery straps, tow straps and if I reeeeeaaaaaallllly had to winch, I have a winch kit for the Hi-Lift. I've done it before and it certainly works in a pinch, albeit slow.
Also, I don't want the extra 100+ pounds of a winch hanging on the front of the truck. I had an idea that I stole from a buddy and decided that if I wanted a winch in the future, I would buy one and mount it to a nice steel plate with a 2" receiver post on the back so I could plug it in the rear tow receiver, and add a 2" receiver to the front so I could stick it up there if need be.
Edit*** I should clarify also.... For the type of wheeling I do out here in the southwest, we hardly ever have the use for a winch. Getting buried in sand is a different animal.... kinetic recovery straps and ropes are king and work better for these scenarios in my opinion. If I were in a place with more rocks and stuff like that where a good tug won't work, I may consider a winch.

Thanks for posting this solution for the crappy Hella turn signals. I will definitely copy this.
Any idea if Schrockworks will have any issues not installing the Hella brackets? Seems like it will be less work for them and they don't even need to send me the lights. I can't call them since it is Sunday, but I will call this week to verify so it will be a lot easier to install these LED signals.
I guess I could see if [MENTION=63082]TxBxSx[/MENTION] chimes in before I call them.

Heyyyy.. so here's a question for you... would you be able to fit that 4 gallon on the underside (where you thought about adding the 2 gallon) and still run a winch?
Seeing an opportunity here to increase my tank volume for my future bumper addition.

I don't see why it should be a problem for them, like you said, its actually less work for them. Just make sure they cut the hole to 2.75" diameter.

Thats a damn good question. Something tells me I remember looking at it and thinking not, but I will crawl under there tomorrow and let you know.

Just got off the phone with Schrockworks. I have decided to take my chances with the Hella lights due to the fact they have already cut the bumper. They said it would delay the shipment about 3-4 weeks if I wanted them to cut the hole larger and they would have to add a customization fee since it is not something they normally do. I will just make sure the rubber boot is installed correctly on the Hella and hope for the best. Worst case I will just have some work cut out for me (no pun intended) if I do choose to go the LED route.

It's funny b/c I've been asked the same thing in the past. Sand is more of a concern for me as well. The last time I went camping with my buddies out in west Texas/NM one of them asked why I didn't have a winch. We were basically in the middle of nowhere and I asked them "what the hell would I connect it to if I got stuck on my own?"
It's always good to see vehicles built with purpose! Great job man!

Oldest trick in the book, dig a big ole hole and wrap your cable around a log/spare tire/hi-lift, fill hole, winch out, dig stuff up, repeat if necessary :madgrin:

[MENTION=99702]jrandom[/MENTION] the good old "dead man" anchor. I used to wheel with a buddy who actually carried a 25# boat anchor with him to use as a sand anchor for self recovery. Never saw it used in person but he claimed it worked better in the sand than in the ocean. Haha. Go figure!

They stopped carrying the 5K version but they still have the 6K ones. I would not hesitate to buy the 6K ones though.

the longest they list there is a 36" from your install experience do you think 3 feet would be sufficient length for good lighting?
