Sold my 2015 Limited

So what happens when some of these fancy systems fail due to age, dirty sensors or computer issues? Systems like blind spot monitoring, auto braking and lane monitoring and correction. What happened to driving the vehicle and paying attention like one is supposed to do? Also what happens when one begins to depend on these systems and than gets in a car that doesn't have them? New habits will be hard to break I think. Rant over - for now!
 
For a city dweller who doesn't go off-road... I can see the want to move to a jeep grand cherokee srt or something like that... its more fun to drive.

A lot of those tech options are amazing too... IMO a luxury that will soon becomes a necessity.

I decided on a Tesla for my city car.... nothing beats Autopilot after a early morning or long day drive home on the 405 freeway.
 
Eh, if someone is happy with all of the tech stuff, go for it. Me? Not having all of that junk is partly why i purchased the 4R. I had 2 JK wranger rubicons, one with about no options (no power windows, locks, etc). The 2nd had power windows/locks, navi, that was about it. Both were good, no real issues (largest was a leaking clutch slave cylinder), both held their value great (as wranglers do). 4runners and tacomas are also known for holding their value great (as OP discovered). Grand Cherokees? Not so much...
And, if you start looking on other sites (such as tacoma world), you'll see they have having plenty of issues with the fancy bits such as the blind spot monitoring. I'll pass on those problems and just use my reliable mirrors as i have for years.

At the end of the day thats what matters.

Wife and I looked briefly at the JGC before going to the 4Runner, although I secretly had no interest in the jeep.

She was quickly converted because the ground clearance on the jeep looked too low to do anything fun with, and the salesman basically called it an all wheel drive instead of a 4 wheel drive. Big no no to her. She had to have (and i agreed with her) that 4x4 was what we wanted.

The resale value was what really cinched it for us.

I am a tow truck operator so I see a ton of vehicles that break down for various reasons. I get tons of jeeps but the late models that I tow are either the wrangler or the patriot. The only JGC Ive gotten has been one with its 3rd blown engine in the 60k miles it had on it. However this one had been fitted with a turbo so I cant count that against jeep in this case.

My brothers WK2 grand Cherokee annoys me. It's frantic on the road, does not instill driver confidence at all cause you never know what it's going to do. Unless you're talking specifically about track times and skidpad the old solid axle grand cherokees handled better and were more enjoyable to drive on a daily basis.. we owned two of them.

Button layout and climate control is clumsy, and they have worse blind spots than an fj cruiser. If I wanted a fast awd I'd be looking at a Lexus or Bimmer.. or better yet a pre owned Range Rover. The new grand cherokees are just an odd mix of style and function and I'm not sure they nailed the second one too good.

Sorry, just really dislike the new wk2's compared to the old ones. They do posess that Jeep lifestyle and image though, and they come in a 5.7 hemi, so I get the appeal.. just different ways of rationalizing/prioritizing their values. Here's my bro's righ out in Death Valley. OME suspension, Mopar sliders, BBS wheels and 32" ko2's. The jeep's traction control system does not seem to work as well as Toyota's but we still got it through.

Before I bought my 2016 4RT, I test drove the JGC and I found the exact opposite of what you found....I found the ride on the Jeep to be harsh. Not rough or hard to drive, just a harsh ride. Could have just been the tires or the suspension, who knows. But thats the exact words I used to describe the ride of the JGC, harsh. Good luck with the GC. Hope it all works out and you enjoy your purchase.

You wouldn't hesitate to own one, and I wouldn't drive one again if they gave it to me.

I always find these "selling my 4R bye bye" posts interesting from a psychology/sociology standpoint. I'm amazed this thread has 50 posts. All of the "good luck with that", "that vehicle is going to fall apart in a week", and "why didn't you look at the X made by Y" posts make me laugh. So many folks taking time out of their lives to tell a stranger they have likely never met that he/she is making a huge mistake, etc. Carry on...

Not saying he'll be back, im sure the JGC will make his wife happy with all of the features it provides, but he said something that was a bit confusing...

He said about his first 4Runner, and SR5 Premium:
'Drove that for a year and 21k and didn't like the binding on tight turns in 4wd.'


what binding? is he saying he used 4WD on dry pavement to have this happen? Just curious...

Yes, that is probably why he got a limited with a full time system and center differential.
 
Im still lurking here a bit. The Jeep is awesome. We love the way it rides including the turning radius. My wife is hooked on the radar cruise and Im hooked on the pr tailgate and blind spot monitor. The bluetooth and nav with the 8" screen work way better than either of my 4 Runners did. I do miss the awesome look of the 4 Runner and the wider cabin. I know the Jeep resale value will suck and things may go wrong but I will buy the extended warranty and we have a third car. I hope they make major advancements for the next gen 4 Runners, or at least catch up to the other brands.
 
I will agree that all that electronic crap on the JGC is enticing. In reality these are just more things that will fail and need expensive repairs. How can anyone trust a used one? I know I never would. It is hard for people to see that less technology is better.
Your PC has failed at sometime, right?
