*solved* Transmission mount please advise.

Going to be swapping out my damaged cross-member. I plan on using the existing trans mount, swapping it over to the new/used cross-member once I drop it.

Anyone know what is involved with taking this big screw apart that goes through the trans mount into the cross-member? Seems like it's unavoidable as I have to swap it to the replacement cross-member. Seems like it's just a big bolt with a plastic nut?

What exactly is it for? The 4 bolts underneath seem to be holding the mount on. The giant screw thing is an odd design. Maybe some sort of spacer? I plan on taking measurements before taking it off the truck just in case.

Can some engineers or yota techs chime in here? Never worked on this kind of mount before. Trying to make this a smooth transfer.

Reading on the taco thread, "it's a fail-safe. when the rubbers break, that bolt keeps the tranny from shifting away from the mount. it doesn't need to be tight. just needs to not come off."

However the screw they are talking about is considerably different...

I'll keep digging...

Edit: No wait that makes sense. It's literally there if the rubbers fail from rot or shock, keeping the two halves of the mount (which are held in with rubber) from separating all together. That way you don't biff something much more expensive... So the question remains... I'm guessing I'll be able to spin that plastic nut off with relative ease?

Kinda skimmed through (it’s a 3rd gen in the video) but it’s looking like I don’t even need to remove the mount from the trans and that plastic nut just protrudes through a crossmember opening. The mount is only secured to the cross member via the 4x bolts.

I’ll look closer at some crossmember pics and confirm but that makes the job super simple if so.

Took it a step further and got my a$$ back under the truck, put some light to it, and grabbed a pic for everyone’s reference.

Well slap my balls and call me Brenda! It’s confirmed there is an opening for the plastic nut. I won’t have to remove the mount from the trans.

I honestly dislike wrenching despite my abilities to do so. I like to come in with a game plan and bang it out like an Alabama boy and his sister.

Curious what led to replacing the crossmember. Assuming a hit of some kind, if so how do you think it held up?

Every now and then I catch a glimpse of mine and think something is falling off, then I realize how low it hangs compared to everything else under there.
