Figures the price is around what it would be for me to bring it in and have the head gaskets replaced/knock senors installed. I don't have the room/tools/experience to do a full motor change out, and it's my daily driver. Will have to weigh my options honestly. Sad too, relatively little rust on it (for having lived it's whole life in New England) and the transmission is still smooth as could be.

Yes that is always the clincher--- whether its your daily driver or you have access to another vehicle. I also have a Celica. Even though I have a garage, I did the swap in my driveway. yes I had the engines side by side in the garage when preparing the swap but it just made the work more comfortable, only. The tools would also be an issue. So of the tools I have were essential, some you could rent. I'm no mechanic by any stretch, but if you have time and you're not in a hurry, its surprising what you can do and what you can learn, not to mention building confidence! I understand your dilemma--- time and space.

Just a quick update. I've decided to sell the 4runner. It pains me to do, I've loved this truck, but I have recently taken a new job about 3 hours away, and am moving out there at the end of next week.

Ah bummer, I can understand though. You've had more issues with yours then most which is rather unfortunate. Best of luck with your next endeavor!

Haha that'd be awesome. Actually the Avalon I wanted sold the next day, I ended up picking up a 2012 Honda Accord Coupe. Unfortunately it's only the 4 cylinder, but it's still got some get up and go. Still hope to be back in a runner some day, but for now, adieu.
