Some more runner issues

(1) when i bought the runner, one of the turn signals was white, other was stock amber, so i changed out the whitey with an amber bulb (4157na) a few days ago, now the new bulb is burnt out...
fyi, the 'whitey' bulb i removed was actually an amber at one point, the amber coating had dried off, or fell off. Found fragments of it on the bulb when i removed. What gives?

(2)i'm doing 60-65 mph hwy driving and getting 17mpg. I have an 03 v8 limited with about 105xxx miles on it. That seems low to me, i thought it would be 19-20.
truck is stock. new bridgestone dueler revo II tires installed this week, oem size. Just had oil change.
Anything i can do to improve this?

I was getting the same MPG out of my V6. Seafoam it. I am getting 19-20 out of it now.

There is now telling when a bulb is going to quit working. I would try switching brands of bulbs. If it keeps happening I would check the wiring, especially the ground wire.

As for MPGs, check your tire pressure, have the alignment checked, air filter, spark plugs.

I was getting the same MPG out of my V6. Seafoam it. I am getting 19-20 out of it now.

I've always been afraid to use seafoam... I dont want to ruin the O2 sensors.

Have you used it many times?

My 04 V6 is RWD and i get 22-23 on the highway

For mileage improvement, small things add up:

- set tire pressure to 35-37 COLD
- clean the MAF sensor to remove residue. The wire is way down inside the sensor, not the obvious one you see easily.
- spark plugs.
- light seafoam treatment, don't go wacko with a whole bottle.
- Front brake caliper have inner pistons that stick or drag, check they are compressing easily.

Do the seafoam last and reset the computer by pulling the Neg battery cable for a couple minutes so it relearns.

It may stall on the first restart, frequently happens.

You'll also need to initialize the windows and rear hatch window.

All easy things to learn and do.

Use a harness, also I suggest you to use a better kit, theretrofitsource, or better yet, retrofit to get full potential.

The front turn signal bulbs always gave me a hard time, too. Sometimes it seems the bulb is loose in the socket, and a jiggle gets it back on.
Brand new tires need a few miles to wear in, and then should give a little better mileage. My recent 375 mile trip to NH I got 18 on the way there and 17 on the way back. My tires are larger than yours, but have about 15k on them.
Its a v8 heavy vehicle. You can't expect much more than that.

I'd check to make sure you have the bulb fully pushed into the socket. I replaced one of my marker lights and thought I might have a short cause the bulbs kept on crapping out on me. After forcing it in (I actually thought I broke the bulb) it's been fine since.

just to add on to what others have said about the loose bulbs or perhaps a wiring issue..

most of the time when you have bulbs that continuously burns out it's due to moisture shorting out the circuit. Condensation, morning dew, or puddles splashing up in the road will get ya every time.. dielectric grease goes a long way when it comes to electrical connections.
