Whats up guys, recently I purchased my Midland 1001LWX and all the equip including my ODL mount, to get my CB running for the trails and my travels to the rig site. Well the one thing I didnt buy is my antenna. I am curious as I hear different things about FIRESTIKS some say they are good and others say bad. I hear Wilson antennas are incredible and the preferred choice by truckers. I was wondering as to what you guys are running for your antennas? Also, as far as length goes, is there a preferred size you guys run and does it make any difference? Also, I see that most are able to be tuned with a SWR meter, is this necessary? They go for like 20-30 bucks so I dont mind picking one up since I would really like to get the most out of my CB, especially for the weather channel option the 1001LWX comes with. Also if you guys are running CBs any idea what length coax you bought to run it to the rear hatch from the ashtray? Any thoughts or advice? In advance thank you guys for the help! :hatsoff:

First off, DON'T buy any antenna from Radio Shack... They suck, period. I've got a K30 mag mount antenna on my Dodge, and I've got it tuned to about 1.3 swr across the board (Ideal swr is 1.1). You will want to buy a SWR meter, as tuning without it is nearly impossible. Just buy one off of Amazon like I did, and don't forget to get a short jumper cable.

If you're not looking for a mag mount, I would recommend the FireSticks with tunable tip. Some friends have them, and they've been working good. But I can't guarantee that, because I haven't ever owned anything other than a mag mount. Good luck!

Here is a thread that i did when setting up my cb: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/112649-buying-cb.html
let me know if it helps!

Awesome, great write up dude I went all the way through it, the 18ft cable is what i had in my cart as well but I didnt know if that was the right size good to see thats the one I will go with as well, and there is a truck stop not far from me down i10 that sells FIRESTIKs and all the springs so I will grab that stuff as well...One of the biggest pointers I picked up on, was the grounding of the mount, someone mentioned, I believe it was Baja Runner, that you should scrape some paint off to get a good grounding point for the mount/antenna. I wouldve never picked up on that. And as far as radioshack goes, I never purchase anything from them, I go to FRYs, the best electronic store/world lol known to man I think and great prices as well. I am going to pick up my 90* connector and the 18ft cable once I get home. I will post pictures of my install on here as well in a week or so. I also did the passenger side mount as I already have a 4g wire running down my driver side I didnt want the coax to pick up weird interference from the power cable. SantaCruz, I also noticed you have an aftermarket wood grain dash (shift bezel is still the SR5) haha mines the exact same, one bc I fudged up my double din install on the first try so I had to buy a new dash and went with the OE woodgrain, and two that damn shift bezel piece is hard as hell to find, Ive bought TWO on ebay, the first claiming to be OE wood grain was just a ****ty laminated stick on piece so got that refunded, then the other day got another, only to get a reply from seller sorry we sold it in the store before we could remove the product from ebay your money will be refunded! :wtf:
