Some thing to give the 4.0's a little more power

surfing the net found a site selling supercharger kits for the 4.0 as well as the 4.7. The people are not in States. But they do have a kit for the 4.0, that gvies it a nice amount of power and torque. 56% power increase and 38% torque increase. They kits seem a little pricy, but for the person who wants their 4.0 to run fast it would be worth it.

Holy crap! That's power! I wish I could get a hold of one, but the fact that they're in Australia, it's not likely that it will make it here to the states. I wonder how come no one else has marketed the Vortech s/c for the 1GR-FE here

Ya, that is alot of power. And they are like 9k Australian $$. I bet if you called and talked to them about they'd ship over a kit for you. That would give you enough power to toy around with just about anything you wanted to on the street.

Droooooool!!!! Man, I'd love to get my grubby little hands on a kit like that. I wonder what it'd take for a company to bring that over and get it emissions legal for the US. Its already about $7300US and it'll definitely go up if someone has to do the work to get it legalized here.

But if the Aussies can do it, I'm sure a US company can do it locally for about the same or less. TRD? COMPTECH?

I'm sure the Taco guys would be interested too.

You would want to be careful about adding a Vortech (centrifugal type) supercharger; it is different from the Eaton (TRD) type blower. Also look at the amount of boost needed to make that power. If you have ANY failures your warranty WILL be voided. The TRD will NOT void your warranty but is not available for the 4.0 or 4.7, for a reason.

Is it safe to say that a roots type supercharger would be more reliable and/or easier on the engine in the long run? Any other disadvantages of a centrifugal blower? You guys heard about the new design in the next (997) 911 Turbo that has variable fin angle on the centrifugal blower? A design that's currently used in turbo diesel engines. Cool stuff

Superchargers from Australia won't work on our cars here because they spin the opposite direction due to the earth's rotation and magnetic field...


Ok, just kidding

There are a few small companies in the states that offer centrifugal supercharger kits that wouldn't mind throwing one on a 4Runner, you just have to call and ask. One company (can't remember the name, sorry) makes a kit for the tundra and wants to retrofit a 4runner to see if the kits are compatible, just do a little research.
