Something horrible happened.......

I have had my 2011 Black SR5 for about three weeks and have put about 1000 miles on her so far. I love it so far, no problems at all and I definatly made the right choice in buying it.

I travel to Washington DC every week from Pennsylvania for work and I stay at a hotel in Georgetown. Last night someone broke out the back passenger side window and stole my Ipod that was hidden in the center console. It just pisses me off that I take such good care of it (I have never even gone above 65mph) and something like this has to happen. So now I am out $300 for the window and $300 for the Ipod.

I just wanted to let everyone know my sad T4R story.

is your deductible less than the price of the damage? I believe being burglarized is covered.

Sorry to hear that. I'm going to drive to Washington DC maybe later this year. Always wanted to see the US capital. Is there any safe place to stay, having 4Runner would hate to drive rental car there.
 
Damn shame, but on the bright side, at least it wasn't vandalized in a way that will leave a permanent scar, such as body damage.

Plenty of good places to stay, I'd recommend the Palomar in Dupont circle if you want to stay downtown. I wouldn't worry about bringing the 4runner, I don't think DC poses a bigger risk to your vehicle than other metro areas? I park mine on the street pretty frequently without issue.
 
Good grief. :( Definitely sorry to hear that man, it's never a good feeling to come out to something like that. My wife's car was broken into twice, and they stole stupid used lottery tickets. I have no idea whats wrong with people now a days.. Too damn lazy to work for thier own stuff so they have to steal from honest, hardworking people. But, as another poster stated, at least it wasn't keyed or anything that would damage the body. Replace the glass and move on. Hang in there man.
 
Really sucks!

Not that 20-20 hindsight helps, but maybe in the future keep any valuables locked up in the glove box rather than center console.

That and get some sharks with laser beams attached to their heads...

It won't matter here - they'll break into your vehicle just to look for loose change or inspect your CD collection.

The only thing one can do is park in a high traffic area. Most people who see a break-in won't do anything, so the more that see it, the higher the chance of being seen by the one in a hundred who'll do the right thing. Not that the cops will come anyways.
 
Sorry to hear that and good luck with your repair & replacement. Just curious, were you parked along M street?

Plenty of good places to stay as another poster mentioned. While it's a completely different topic, I'd recommend staying in Arlington and leave your 4R in the hotel garage -- not for safety reasons, but because parking is a pain in DC and the Metro system is super easy and clean. I took my new truck into DC a number of times before I moved away and was more worried about door dings in the tiny parking spots than a break in.

That sucks, sorry to hear.

In this case, other than being in wrong place at wrong time there probably wasn't anything you could do. Sounds like the iPod was out of sight as it was, so regardless if it was there or not they would've broke in. If you had it in your glove box and it was locked maybe they would've wrecked your dash to try to get in.

Stupid punks....

Hope you get all fixed up quick and painless.
