Yea, sheet metal roof drills easy. And you can always use SS washers and nuts on the inside of the headliner. :hand:

No thanks. If it doesn't fit the existing bolted anchors of the original, stock roof rack, don't bother. Remember, you have to waterproof the anchor points and any added anchors have to sit in a low trough, the roof gutter.

I like my BajaRack flat utility rack with cross bars at 4" oc (no mesh) a lot.

The factory rack mounts are also low in a trough, no?

Not for everyone obviously, but I don't find the prinsu a big deal to install if you're careful. Mine went on the new 4runner with no drama, as did the rack I drilled my brand new wrx roof to accept a few years before (why they removed factory mounting brackets in 2015 remains a mystery). Not a single leak, squeak or creak from either after many thousand combined loaded and unloaded miles in all seasons, weather conditions, through car washes, etc.

I'd sooner have a rookie do the rack install than brake or suspension work on my vehicles...

I’m waiting for some real photos for this rack otherwise ecotechne will get my business. This used slotted square tube which is nice to easily add mounts and stronger than just flat steel

I don't really like that the side rails are flat sheet metal. It needs a bend along the length to stiffen it up.

Pinsu used to be my favorite looking aluminum rack, now this one is the best looking IMO. I didn't buy the Pinsu because of having to drill and I ordered a heavy, expensive Gobi instead (on my 18th week of waiting right now). I would much rather have this SSO rack.

I’ll buy that Gobi once you get it if you are thinking about getting the SSO [emoji16]

How would one use a snowboard rack with this type of rack and still be able to get 4 boards on it (the bottom boards face down so the bindings need room).
Thoughts?

That is the owner's wife's 4Runner, and their prototype mule. That is simply one of the old style rear bumpers, bare metal and no swing outs. Believe me he's already been asked. Lol

ahh, makes sense now! I confused myself on their mounting points.


So, other fun joy to look at, I recall the prinsu had issues with the antenna/shark fin, I wonder if this design will be just as susceptible to it or if they need to do the smaller cross bar to avoid interference.

I am kind of liking this rack so far, waiting for some honest reviews. My garage door is only 6 1/2 feet tall so I need to be careful

I pre ordered this rack before it was released. The parts are cut and powdercoated and I should get notice to pick it up in the next week or so. Per SSO customer service the rack was tested with 350lbs on two crossbars. It comes with 8 i think and has a space left open for sunroofs. I ordered two additional bars in case i ever need to use the space above the sun roof. Im looking forward to getting it installed and getting some photos and a review out to the forum. SSO also said they will be releasing a variety of accessory brackets 1st qtr 2018 for their racks.

Has anyone received/installed this rack yet? I'm very tempted to purchase one, but am also considering the echotechne rack. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, especially since I'd love to purchase the SSO bumper too.

Received, not installed. I've been on the road since last Tuesday. Just got home today, but it will be next weekend before I MIGHT get a chance to install it.
